Guys, I just got back from FedEx and UPS and the cost to ship my Studio V with/in case is going to be between $200-$250. That's with insurance and their lowest cost ground. The final price will be established once they box it.

Is this usual?
What have you guys paid to ship similar basses with cases?
Did you box it yourself?
Did you insure the shipment?

I just bought my Epi Goth and the seller charged $35, $200+ seems way too high. No case but still wrapped and boxed up well.

bull...Ive shipped many basses. a t bird IN box and hardshell from USPS insured was about $80, fedex is way cheaper, more like $50 and ups charged about $150. If you have an online account you get a better price. the ups price was outrageous but buyer insisted

Re UPS, they changed the way they charge and upped their rates as of 1/1/2015, boxes are charged by a complicated dimensional weight and even when you have a business account, it's F&^%(*# expensive. I've shipped basses to Germany for $150.00 via U.S.mail with great results.

Holy ship! That's insane!! WAY too high. I've heard tales that UPS Stores and FedEx Kinko's charge a bunch, but that is highway robbery.

Like others have said, get an account with Fedex or UPS. I prefer Fedex, if for no other reason than they deliver on Saturday, while UPS does not. I just shipped a bass today, from Ohio to California for $28. It did not have a case, but I packed it so the bass with arrive safely. I printed the shipping label, applied it to the box, and dropped it at my local FedEx/Kinko's. No questions asked. Oh, and that was with $600 insurance as well. Anything over $50 is just ridiculous, IMO.

I remember that cool Inverness Green '63 T-bird II from Ebay - It had a Bartolini pickup fitted, if I remember correctly...
