I for one am pleased with the trend to class D amps. Everything else is coming down in price, especially on the used market. Both my Hartke 410XL's were almost new, and I paid $199 each for them. My SVT-3 Pro went on clearance at a prawn shop down the street from me, which wasn't gonna sell at that location, so I asked for a discount on it and got it for something like $290. My GK 800RB was $275, but got another hundred bucks in repairs...and doesn't get used. LOL! Granted, these were spread out over a couple years and a couple things were on layaway, but deals are to be had if you can wait and shop carefully...all because they're not lightweight. That’s what I’m thinking. These days, except for a small minority who still love big tube amps, unless a SS amp weighs under 5lbs, you can barely give em away. I’ve heard people in gen pop talk about 10lb amps as though no one could possibly be expected to hoist such a boat anchor. Same with cabs. Goes a long way toward explaining why so many bass players sound so awful. Not that a light rig can’t sound good, it just ain’t my primary consideration every gig.
All that to say, seems like a great time to snatch up nice SS and hybrids. Even GK rb amps are cheap and those are great amps! I’m just getting oddly nostalgic for old Sunn, Marshall, Sound City and the like
Fantastic!. I had this cranked through my surround sound and it was awesome. And Prog. Listening through cans so does it justice!
You'll be needing this.
say n'more, say n'moreBut it's my Bird though. nudge nudge, wink wink.
Daaaaaaaang PillOSkip ahead to page 15. The builder tells his side of the story (and sounds far more credible than the OP).
