Found a loop hole for not wanting a wah, I see.
It's okay to admit that you want more pedals, you're not going to hurt anyone's feelings here... you might hurt a couple peoples feelings, but such is life.

Oh I want pedals alright, but for guitarists. I have the perfect guitar tone in my head.

I was considering getting rid of the compressor as well. I don't use it at all with the upright, and I'm using it less and less with the 'Bird. I keep it turned so far down that it hardly does anything, so why bother? I like the way the 'Bird sounds just by itself better. Seems like a no-brainer.

That would mean wireless, HPF, and ToneHammer. If I end up with a blending preamp on the upright so I can use a clicky pickup, then the ToneHammer would probably go as well. It's there as much for impedance match as anything. I do actually use it to make the upright sound like itself in a given room, so it's redundancy remains to be seen. The board would be bare looking, but I'm ok with that.

Actually, all you really need is a good, working Rotating Wah. It's oil can, wah, and volume pedal, all in one giant, shiny chrome box that's bigger than most pedalboards. No need for a wah, no need for an echoplex. Clean boost is kinda dealt with using the volume pedal. Plus CHROME!

I have been having an awful lot of fun with a feedback making pedal so that I can get the howls and squeals without attracting a SWAT team. Among other shiny boxes. But that's all guitar stuff that's not suitable for polite audiences.

When the pedal dudes wind up losing tone because they have a dozen pedals, the answer is usually another pedal :)
On the other hand, over on the Stoner/Doom thread, there are a lot of bass players who make incredible use of effects. They learn how to stack em best and many still get an amazing, big tone. So I guess maybe before you start sucking your tone dry, just learn a few tricks. Our own @Korladis and @ProgressiveDoom have made impressive recordings with a complex, layered bass sound.

Harlowe, from Prayer Flags, has a massive pedalboard, but he ain’t going for anything conventional. Oddly, his massive pedalboard doesn’t have a single OD or fuzz. He runs 3 amps and can switch how he stacks the amps to get what he wants. It’s a huge pain, but he likes it, so I don’t say anything:)
