Thunderbird Club

Almost regurgitated my porridge over the iPad. Really didn't need to see that level of authenticity.
I can't even joke about it being authentic. It's not standard issue Canadian clothing. That's the suit people that can't split firewood but think it's cool, wear. And it was the FIRST picture on Google images when I looked up Lumberjack

I have the old non-tapered case, and it fits fine. They are going to try it out at Sweetwater before sending it.

I have the Epiphone one coming on Thursday from Sweetwater. Didnt think about the new VP not fitting as it was the only case on Epiphones site. Guess if it doesnt fit will have to return it.

there is a used GK 700RB II sale now by a shop for 300$.

allegedly there is no problem in usage i want to order it asap but this is so insanely cheap it makes me feel sketchy.
what do you guys think?

Sounds like a great deal if it’s working properly!

It works on jackets.... just not blazers/sports coats/any form of jacket that you wear to a formal event

Crap...

I like mine. Oh, but you guys are talking about a VP fitting it, right?
How much longer is the VP? This is my 2013 Gibson inside.

Well, this is kind of helpful and kind of not. I appreciate the description, and I feel like I can hear what you're saying in my head. But it's not helpful because I thought I had decided on the VP, and now I'm not so sure. Crap! LOL. My typical outlet - playing in church - might not be served by something completely aggressive and buzz saw-ish, which cannot be tamed. But there are also things that I like about the VP, so I'm kind of back to the drawing board. Thanks for the feedback, though. I might decide to start with a Classic, which you can actually find used these days cheaper, and move up (or sideways) to the Vintage later.

Go for a Classic, you could always add aftermarket pickups. They're really nice basses.

While the VP can be pretty zippy and zingy it certainly can be tamed. Neck pickup, roll off the treble and bring your fingers into the game. I have found both 60's Thunderbirds and the Vintage Pro to be very versitile. A set of flat wounds would help as well. Me I use Rotosounds LD RS 66 and can get any thing I want out of my birds.

Agree, I suspect they can be tamed but in my case will probably require flats to do so. I just need to get around to ordering some. Veronica's advice looks good too, the Classic might be a bit more laid back and fit better sound wise in a worship service at church. And remember, a great player can make just about any bass work good in just about any setting, unfortunately I'm not there yet.

Also talking to Steve at Thunderbucker about trying out some new pickups. He thinks they should drop right into the VP. Anyone try, or have a set handy to confirm they look like they'd fit without modding?
Yep, I can confirm they are a drop in replacement.

I think it’s an electronics thing more than the pickup itself, but we’ll see. Not like I’ve touched that poor P bass since I got my T Bird :)
I recommend a Fender AVRI 63 pup if they're selling them w/o the entire bass. Not sure if it's the same as the Pure Vintage '63

AVRI 63 is your favourite P iirc, yes?
At the moment. Last one in and the one I've been playing lately. I'd have to see how it compares to the Duncan Antiquity on my ash/maple '57 clone. Or the Antiquity II on the Dunn Tribute, that would be more 'apple to apple'.
