Also once you've installed emgs the quick connect makes it a snap to change pups. Just unplug and plug in the new ones.
Also forgot to mention, cutting the volume on the bass gives it more of a warm passive tone, wide open its all metal.
Currently im running the eq at about 70% tone about 20% balanced between neck and bridge with 50% volume.
It sounds very thick and heavy (D standard) just plows through the mix too
I don't think so. The whole Gothic line was flat black before flat black basses were in.

Hey!
Those basses in the top pic belong to my friend Uwe!
They are part of what is likely the largest collection of Gibson basses anywhere in the world, well over 125 pieces with many extremely rare and prototype one off instruments - these are on the wall of his office!
He travelled to the U.S. this past September and I got to meet him, a most wonderful, warm and friendly guy, when I return to Germany I have an open invitation to visit and see this collection firsthand.

Could this be THE most elusive modern bird?
Personally, I wouldn't want a flat black Gibson. They look cool but get tore up so easy and after awhile from handling get a gloss. Scratch easy and look cheap. Great for an epi and a Sixx bass is just a whole different deal. I have 4 flat basses now, wouldn't have it on an expensive bass.

As in the previous pictures: Before my dad had got his blackbird, he was looking for an all black thunderbird most likely like that one but stumbled on the blackbird and loved it. In regards of the flat black turning glossy, i think that's what drew me towards the goth in one aspect of it. The other was the plain fingerboard & XII inlay marking. Also because i was/am a marilyn manson/twiggy ramirez fan and it sorta was dedicated to him i got it. Main reason for the refinish was to mask up the scars and old holes plugged up, but also to get that glossy flat black look with some satin black finish and semi gloss clear coat. Does the job and i love it. Sounds killer, i forgot how much i loved the sound of the stock pickups. Although sorta mud if not eq'd properly (which is why i always have a hair of treble enduced distortion to kick it up) it's a killer bass and i really can't wait to have my MKII bird. Most likely the last bird i'll need/have but that could change too. I don't need two of each of my basses (i'll have two thundebirds and i have two precision - copies) the rest of my creations are going to be one offs to my desire and in no means for resale afterwards.
I'm free to build/experiment with different styles and i love that freedom without lawsuit afterwards from gibson and etc.
Oh you guys don't have to tell me about the horrors of caring for a flat black paint job

The explorer is a '99 series 1 gothic, and was my FIRST gibson the SG is a very rare Gothic series 2 with factory EMGs.
I actually sold the explorer, but was lucky enough to get it back a few years later.

I never cares for the SG but THAT is nice! The horns are so much more suited as a Gothic Black. Red? Not so much for me. Don't even want to hear it. Just doesn't work for me but black??? Wow!
I decided to update my 2001 Gibson with a new pickguard and truss rod cover. I have had a carbon fiber guard and TRC on this bass for several years now and just wanted to update the bass a little bit. Here are a couple of shots with the carbon fiber parts:
I had ordered the blk/red/blk guard and then found the TRC on Ebay. The guy can do the Gibson logo in several finishes so I was able to get red like I wanted. I bought a couple of the red bird decals from Larry and ordered some custom knobs from Ebay. I REALLY tried to find knobs like they had on the Voodoo series from Gibson (black top hats with red numbers) but had no luck. My wife felt that these knobs worked because they would be blk/red/blk like the guard. The red ply in the guard doesn't stand out as much as I had hoped it would, but you see it much better in person than pictures would indicate. So here is my Bird with the current updates. I like the changes

There's a guy on eBay selling them for $25. Any color lettering you need I think.
The guy on Ebay does silver too. Sellers handle is apcustom_shop. $25 shipped and they ship pretty fast. Does Gibson and Epi sized TRC's.
In non T-bird news, I've been looking for a BC rich warlock for my tribute as Nikki is well known for his shout era warlocks. I've looked EVERYWHERE since sept, nothing. Then, after rehearsal a few days ago I jump on my eBay saved search, there it is! $280 shipped. So, I should have it tomorrow. I'll be painting the neck to match the body, new black hardware (even the jack plate) new (old) dimarzio model Ps, flush mount straploks and white pinstriping for that fake binding look!
As a kid in Detroit I always thought that t birds and warlocks were the coolest. I went into a few stores and touched them, that was all I could do. That was '85,'86. So here were are, '15 I'll have a warlock and 3 r birds at my next show in April playing my idol's songs! Oah, and my wife and daughter are back up singers. Good timez
