Thunderbird Club

Ok, got it. Thunderbuckers are a good choice as well. But passive.
Which Epi do you have?

A TV Silver and may end up picking up a Flying V, but both have TB plus pickups that are a little too boomy. Currently the T bird doesn't leave the house in favor of my Spectors, but was thinking of how to make it more of the sound I want. The "V" is just an opportunity. Love the look. Perfect for what I do, but I know the sound will not be what I like, so I'm anticipating a mod.

Understood. As far as the TB's go, but bare with me, have you tried rolling off some bass, and a little high mid boost on your amp?

Great suggestion! Black Beauty’s got the ‘14 more in the ballpark for my Americana gigs

It's 19.55 in Blighty, work should be over for the day. Rock on.

I like 'em for all kinds of things on the '01. But I use the tone knob quite a bit to tailor sound to song, and futz with the ToneHammer a bit at times when something doesn't sound quite right. I have been boosting low mids lately, just because.

At the risk of sounding blasphemous, I don't use an amp. I use a Helix LT amp modeler and go direct. I may be able to remodel an amp and create a separate setting, but I was looking at quick swapping back ups if I needed to. Wouldn't be the end of the world though, for me to throw a different EQ in a chain and do it that way. Probably cheaper than new pickups anyway, right? Thanks for making me think a bit.

That said, for future reference if anyone searches for this stuff like I did, do EMG TBs fit the Epi's?

@dukeorock Get one of these to test!

Reiner Amplification (from FB) "...Chassis is 12” wide, 8” deep. Should be around 25# finished with head shell, and good for 90ish clean, full bandwidth watts. Massive, high torque KT88 power section. Preamp is based on the VHF700 but with a 6SL7 front end. Going with a gain, no master (like a vintage SVT), active bass/mid/treble EQ. I’ll add a Jensen DI to the front if it turns out OK."

Just get rid of that Toroidal, ain't worth the weight savings IMO!

What do you say that (re. the toroid?)?

It'll come sooner than you think. Years blow by at an alarming rate once you hit 50.

That is the sad truth :rollno:

No steady reggae gig this summer, bagged out of the Newport hotel weekends. Just too much of a grind, I always go home too tired, hungry and broke- we don't get paid till a day or so later. Bandleader was disappointed, but you gotta have heart for what you do. So I'm looking for a steady gig now. Kinda hope I run into something more in the rock n roll vein...

Best of luck in your search for a new gig!! You will find something.
