Thunderbird Club

The realistic alternatives are:

1. Live with the finish

2. Sell the bass

It will be one of those things then.
Far be it from me to tell you how to feel, but I think that if you viewed it in a nostalgic light... you could become quite fond that finish. Not because of the finish itself... but because it shall forever represent a pivotal point in your life. You saw Scott's first bass ever (or a reasonable facsimile thereof). I'd wager it's not his "favorite bass"... but I promise you, it's favorite first bass;)

I gave my first actual bass (Ric copy) to someone who wanted to learn back in the last century. No idea what happened to it from there.

The Epi isn't even my first bass since I started playing again. That was the Maranello and it's gone now.

Not bass related, but it has the man himself, Les Paul, and the bearded wonder, Billy Gibbons. And it's one of the coolest videos I've seen in a while...
I find it neat that Les Paul is using a Fuzztone(?) Les Paul, and not a Standard or Custom.

That's the Les Paul Recording model as built to the man's specification.

... but it IS your first 'bird... and as I recall you seem to have a fondness for, and dedication to the 'bird of Thunder. Seems a thing or two may have changed in your life since that trans black 'bird showed up in your nest. Make of it what you like:)

You guys gotta see this! The first 3 minutes & 39 seconds contains about a months worth of blues scales! Pedal to the floor & that bass player don't miss a lick!:bassist:

<edit>

This is a friggin' AMAZING show, and it just keeps gettin' better! Currently, Mick Hucknall, Slash, B.B. King, Ron Wood, Susan Tedeschi, and Derek Trucks are all on stage at the same time (with B.B.'s band of course)! B.B.'s fondness for Derek Trucks' playing is comically obvious... and you've never seen Slash as subdued as he is on that stage. Just lotsa cool special spontaneous moments! Highly recommended:cool::cool::cool:

That is a really cool candid moment there. First time I've seen Billy F. Gibbons behave in a remotely humble manor.

I'd heard that Les Paul's favorite was the "Recording" model. I wonder if the one in the video is his number one...

I don't see the problem with the Transparent Black finish: For the most part and the audience it will appear opaque black - It's only in direct sunlight you'll actually be able to see it's a transparent finish.

If it were me, I would keep it as it is, and play the Hell out of it - But then again, I'm biased towards the Transparant Black finish, which is why I bought both my Pro IV and Pro V in that particular color... :)

Yes... But it's your FIRST Thunderbird, that got you into this club and all the mess that followed... :)

You (and everyone else) are correct of course. Fretting (hah) about nothing, finding 'fault' where there is none.
