My angry skate-punk phase was cut short by my back surgery. That, plus 6 months in a body cast, will have an affect on a 15 year old kid. You may recall that I used that surgery as a tool to guilt my parents into getting me my first drum set. When I came outa that cast... the skate punk was gone. I spent most of my time in the basement teaching my parents the meaning of the word "regret", while I was bashing out Aerosmith, Hendrix, Kansas, Boston, & Stones tunes:D

ShackShakers did a 5 week tour in Europe supporting Robert Plant, who turned out to be about the coolest guy ever. He once asked me, “Is there anyone you’ve never met that you wish you could?” I figured Jimmy would be coming to one of the shows, or something. My response was “I’d love to meet Jeff Beck.” A week later, at the London gig, a crew guy grabs me and says “Robert wants you to come to the green room.” I walk in and there’s Jeff Beck. It was all I could do not to go all Chris Farley on him! He was super nice. Later saw a little piece in the press where Jeff said he’d been to a Legendary ShackShakers gig and that we were “a cross between early Yardbirds and the Sex Pistols.” I have no idea what that even means, but it’s so cool to get props from your heroes.

All that to say, Jeff Beck can dress however the fvck he pleases :)

Put some Chromes on the Cataldo. Not too bad. Right now it’s that and Cobalts on the ‘02 and Black Beauty on the ‘14. Rounds will go back on one or two of em, but the flats sound cool. Funny, just playing by myself the BB’s are one of my least favorite strings I’ve ever played, but they sound great in a band mix

Funny how that works. Still can't wait to try the Lo-Riders, but I need to get a couple more months out of these RS66 before changing. When do you try them? ;-)

Yep! I like Lo Riders a lot, but I’m new to the T Bird thing, so I’m just trying stuff for the heck of it. I thought the KS BassBurners on the Cataldo were a bit too zingy for a lot of my gigs. Will likely try a half dozen more things before I settle into something. The Gretsch needs a new set of flats, so I can take em off one of the Birds when the time comes

I feel the same way about them. You can get some zing when you want, dial it back when you want, and get different sounds out of them depending on how you play. For what it's worth, I have been experimenting a bit with using a pick with the P-bird, and it seems to like that for some things. That bass turned out really well in some respects. No dead spots, great balance, and oddly enough, it's easier to sling around than a Gibson or Epiphone. I don't know why, because it's a bit heavier.

I'm really liking the Bill Lawrence P pickup. It's a rail, not exposed pole pieces. It seems to sound a bit more 'Bird like than some other P pickups, which is probably why I like it. It looks like an oddball split coil P pickup, so it fits the vibe, but it may be similar to some of the pickup designs Gibson put under the soapbar cover in the past. Veronica might know more along those lines.

Glenn Matlock played on all tracks of the album except Bodies which was written after he left.

They tried to get him back in the studios to record Bodies, but he declined. Eventually Sid played on Bodies instead, but apparently did a piss poor job so Steve Jones had to overdub him.

I just got the coolest text from my eldest daughter! It seems that this semester at school isn't nearly as entertaining as the last... and it's payin' off!!! Here's a copy & paste of her text...

"Sheer boredom led me to the blessed world of blues"

I don't know how... but she found the soundtrack to "Cadillac Records", which led her down the path to Etta James, Chuck Berry, and more! She just sent me another text that said, "I did not know the Rolling Stones were Muddy Waters inspired"!

Today is a good day my friends! Today is a VERY good day:D:D:D
