I didn’t play my first show until ‘79 (in a prog band, no less) and I looked like an idiot

I probably have you way beat on that one, and i'm glad i don't have pics from those days.
If i did, no way would i post them.

I should have thought my quote through first, I forgot that Larry V happens to have musicaly talented youngsters. But they are a small percentage of the youth of today that truly appreciate and understand music. The world needs more of them before musicians become history like the dinosaurs.

My son is actually a professional trumpet player these days. He came up playing pre-rock and roll, pre-soul jazz. Go figure. There's a big contingent of those kids in this area. Some end up in New York or LA, but plenty of them stick around. They will have an influence in time.

My dearest friend, a drummer I’ve been playing with for 30 years, loves nothing more than humiliating me by showing the worst pictures ever of me in the ‘80’s. He has em framed in his house, the heartless bastard. Now I just show em, because he’s going to anyway

It could be argued that the Sex Pistols were the greatest boy band fabrication of em all (or was it the Clash?), but Lydon appeared to know what was going on. They were interesting, original and made one iconic record before Lydon blew it to bits.

If you don't know what you are talking about, it would be absolutely perfect. The Sex Pistols were a scam from the start. The only one who wasn't in on the joke, apparently, was Sid Vicious. I get a huge kick out of the Pistols, even now, just because they were so determinedly awful in such an energetic way.

I agree with most of what you’re saying, but I think they played pretty great on the Bollocks record. It was just simple music, but that was a very effective record

Later saw a little piece in the press where Jeff said he’d been to a Legendary ShackShakers gig and that we were “a cross between early Yardbirds and the Sex Pistols.” I have no idea what that even means, but it’s so cool to get props from your heroes.

I don't know what that means exactly, either, but it sure sounds like high praise, in an odd kind of way. My head would have trouble fitting through doorways for a week if Jeff Beck said that about any band I played in. You must put on an amazing show.

Oh, I love their playing, especially on that record. It's all attitude and ferocity. And, whoever actually played on that record was probably not strung out and probably did know how to play. Unlike Sid, who probably didn't play on that record. I don't recall whether they had liner notes and credits or not, either.

They were a little like the LA sessions musicians in the '60s who had to figure out how to play like kids who weren't virtuosos in order to sound convincing. They pulled it off, and so did the Sex Pistols.

That explains a lot. There's hardly any kind of music I can't find something to like about. Except Broadway shows. For the most part. There's even some good stuff from there. I just can't think of it for now.

Could be one of the advantages of being a living legend...ain’t nobody gonna tell him how to dress or act. I sure wouldn’t anyway...dude is one of my all time heroes and one of the few people I got totally star struck over when we met.
ShackShakers did a 5 week tour in Europe supporting Robert Plant, who turned out to be about the coolest guy ever. He once asked me, “Is there anyone you’ve never met that you wish you could?” I figured Jimmy would be coming to one of the shows, or something. My response was “I’d love to meet Jeff Beck.” A week later, at the London gig, a crew guy grabs me and says “Robert wants you to come to the green room.” I walk in and there’s Jeff Beck. It was all I could do not to go all Chris Farley on him! He was super nice.
