I think you've got it!

I generally dislike the way SS rounds feel. I liked original Roto Swing and never even looked at the gauges of the SS, since I never considered buying them. I would have checked the gauges if I was interested in the string, always do.
Thanks! And yeah, I totally understand that. You like what you like.

That’s their problem :)
It’s also why there’s so much generic, crappy music.
I think a lot of folks are terrified to just be themselves and let the chips fall

Whenever people ask for advice around here, 'which amp/cab/pickups should I buy?', I try to keep my answer as generic as possible, because it's important for people to find what they like, not just what some opinionated stranger on the interwebz says. If people ask for my personal opinion about something, fine, otherwise there's always the info on my profile page for the curious.

Oh my G, here is a great example of genpop wisdom...

"I've never played through a tube amp. But if you can try a Mesa Subway, it's about as tubey as you're going to get from a small class D amp."

Because why?

I really do love that just about everything out there that is touted as giving 'tube sound', with the exception of actual valves, gets nowhere close.

Right, buddy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wonder if that person read their own post and felt silly...I would hope so.

‘You should try what I have because everyone else has it this month. It’s the most like something I’ve never tried that I’ve ever tried.’

I'm really interested in trying one of those GK MB Fusions. But I don't think I've ever played through a tube amp.

The difference, compared to the class D head before it, with pretty much the same EQ curve and gain/volume setting, was the difference between a two dimensional world and our three dimensional world. Valve amps are the Higgs Boson of bassery, they give you mass.

Yeah, one of these days I need to try one. I guess so much in NYC is solid state because of portability. The MB Fusion has tubes in it.

People were saying a while back they really dig the aesthetic of a lot of big amps on a stage. I was watching Savages at Glasto 2016(?) the other day and thinking in the other direction. The stripped down, unadorned simplicity of the stage with a pair of guitar combos and a bass amp is perfect. To me, in a way, it makes the noise all the more entrancing -- how does all that come out of something so small?

YMMV

A few recent experiences:
Dream theater had all of a couple of Mesa Boogie stacks on stage (a direct result of an endorsement). It was clear that they were attached to nothing. Otherwise the stage was bare except for the musicians and their instruments.
Deep Purple had only a couple of TC Electronic stacks on stage (a direct result of an endorsement). It was not clear if the stacks were or were not attached to anything. Otherwise the stage was bare except for the musicians and their instruments.
Guns N Roses had no visible amps on stage. Just musicians and their instruments.

In all three cases, the sound is coming out of the PA, the musicians are on IEMs. And in all three cases, the sound was great and there was more that the band could do with the room on the stage. From a show perspective, it makes for better visual and better auditory experience.

Having said that, I do want a stack for home. Partly for the sound, partly for the cool look. And mostly to scare the neighbors and have the option to piss them off.
