Thunderbird Club

Well my point was about these strings in particular.

Clearly, Roto think that’s the proper balance. And to that point, many strings with the same gauge feel wildly different. Cobalt 45-105 feel WAY stiffer than a lot of other strings with the same numbers, so there’s that to consider. I’ve also only ever used Roto nickel strings. Never tried the steels. For steels, I’ve always run Lo Riders for whatever reason. Like em too!

Another genpop thing I find curious. See or hear about a piece of gear with serious marketing babble and outrageous claims. Promote it on TB as a ‘game changer’ though you’ve never heard or tried it
I think that somehow goes hand in hand with, "Oh... my... gawd... it's like, SOOOOOPER important that you like what I like, as much as I like it... or we can't be friends!"

Could it simply be that for some reason the 80's tension balances better in that set than an 85?

I really don’t envy string manufacturers trying to decide how to balance sets to suit as wide a demographic as possible. For awhile I was running Kalium strings because you can customize sets any way you please. They’re just really expensive and the site was a nightmare to navigate. Insane amount of options

There’s that too! Say what you like and folks interpret that as you saying what they like is junk, when all you’re saying is ‘I like this.’ I always thought it was cool that we don’t all want the same exact stuff

Hi guys I’m new here on talkbass,
After a while as a strictly fender guy I always loved the look of the Thunderbird. I recently bought a Epiphone Vintage Pro Thunderbird and it’s an amazing bass. Strung it with Rotosound 66s and it kills any fender bass Ive played. Plus my hero John Entwistle played one
Boy! Are YOU in the right place!!!:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

But 90% of people do want the exact same stuff -- if the GenPop is anything to go by.

Yeah, very much looking forward to trying those. And also your impressions of the SS Rotos!

Come to think of it, I was always kind of hit and miss with Trace Elliot stuff, but many folks think their tube V Type amps are the holy grail, so I guess you never know

I had one of the hybrid Trace V-Type heads but I don't think it is the same sound as the all tube type. I liked that head a lot but I am a whore and like to try different gear so it went away. I would def love to try the all tube V-4 or V-6 heads.

That’s their problem :)
It’s also why there’s so much generic, crappy music.
I think a lot of folks are terrified to just be themselves and let the chips fall

I should order some of those too! The Rotos I ordered today are nickel. I should get some SS Rotos to compare to SS Lo Riders

I was just thinking about this. You're talking about nickels, right? Could it be that their SS always had an 80? The current nickel RS66 regularly comes in 45-65-85-105.
I think you've got it!

I generally dislike the way SS rounds feel. I liked original Roto Swing and never even looked at the gauges of the SS, since I never considered buying them. I would have checked the gauges if I was interested in the string, always do.
