Thunderbird Club

The only sports I really like, involve moving at high rates of speed, or doing something stupid like riding a bicycle in a swimming pool.

American Football...head on collisions at high rates of speed with life altering effects. Not stupid enough for you?

Was too wound up after the gig to go to sleep, so I went down a very strange YouTube rabbit hole. First was a documentary on early Genesis. It ends when Steve Hackett quit the band. Most of that stuff doesn’t hold up for me, but they had some amazing arrangements and Mike Rutherford’s bass tone was incredible on that early stuff.
Then while you’re watching something, there’s those suggestions on the side bar thing...that led me to an hour long documentary on Kate Bush, which led to several videos and another 90 minute documentary on her. I’ve always loved her voice and approach to music, but considered her a ‘guilty pleasure’ of sorts. Such an interesting person and artist. She was ‘discovered’ by David Gilmour when she was 15 and by that age she had already written and demo’d over 100 songs. David Gilmour finances a 3 song demo at Abbey road and she gets signed to EMI, who give her two years to make a record. The record comes out when she’s 17 and features the first number one British hit, self penned by a female artist (“Wuthering Heights”). It’s also her only number one single. Later, she becomes the first female artist to produce her own records in Britain and they’re her best records. Then she disappears for years and years. No interviews, nothing. Just vanished because she wanted to start a family. After 35 years of not performing, she books 22 shows in one venue to perform again. No other gigs besides that. All 22 shows sell out in less than 15 minutes and she’s as good as ever. Amazing artist. The presentation was tough for me, because it often goes kinda musical theater, but if you can work with that she’s just amazing

Interesting story about Kate there.

Same same. 'Rounders', played in posh girls schools, where it's prounounced 'rinders'.
My wife grew up within earshot of the Bow Bells. So, she's officially Cockney. It goes will with my official Appalachian-ness. We both seem to have escaped.

But, she played rounders as a girl, despite attending somewhat less than posh schools. When we met, I took her to a baseball game, and it made perfect sense to her. Except that it was grown men playing a schoolgirl's game. American football is an entirely different thing. She likes watching it, and she watched the Super Bowl yesterday. I didn't.

She spent some of her advance money on interpretive dance lessons.
Yeah, she was always a little different.
And Genesis? One of my all time favorites. Just the best.
A lot of people referred to Kate Bush as the female Peter Gabriel.
Good stuff.

I could confine myself to viewing three sports and be quite content, never think 'oh I wonder what such and such is doing', or feel I was missing out on others.
I like watching things with motors, trying to go faster than other things with motors... but not enough to track it closely. Never really been a sports guy otherwise. I played basketball when I was in 8th grade. I was tall... it seemed natural (it wasn't).
