With as stupid as that is... I'm not convinced it's any more stupid that paying 5 hunnerd bux for a nosebleed seat 1/4 mile away from where the head-on collisions are taking place...
I drove cross country to L.A. in Jan 1973 partly through a major blizzard to join my brother in a band. When I got to where he was staying I knocked on the door and my dad opened it. He'd just flown out from Miami. First thing he said was, "I have 50 yard line tickets for the Super Bowl tomorrow". My response was, "Great, let's sell them!".

All three of us did go to the game. My dad had finagled the tickets of course, and he won $750 on the game....and I got introduced to smog which was very visible looking across the Coliseum at the players on the field .

About 10 years later the Dolphins got to the SuperBowl again, this time at the Rose Bowl, and a similar thing happened. I didn't go that time because the band I was in was shooting a never to be seen video in a dive bar that day. Rick "Mad Dog" Madigan used my ticket.

YOU, Sir... have lived an exceptional life! I almost feel like I could grab any 2 or more words at random and assemble them in any order, and you would have a cool story about an experience in your life that relates to those words! It never gets old!

Rugby Union ... to distinguish it from Rugby League (which is mainly played in the eastern states of Australia, Dorkland NZ and parts of northern England). One of the chief distinctions being that Union was -- until 1995 -- strictly 'amateur', while League was professional.

Now there are players who switch between codes (Sonny Bill Williams squeeeeeeee!) depending where in the World Cup cycle we are.

I couldn't give a flying rat fvck about League. There's very little opportunity to see Union on free to air telly here, so I watch maybe 2 games = about 3 hours per year.

I was looking around and the origins of the names football, soccer, etc. Nothing terribly clear, but it seems 'soccer' goes back to the UK in the 1800s, and Rugby is officially called Rugby Football? And historically, American Football is actually called Gridiron Football?

It's Forrest Gump, only with bass playing!

Nothing compared to the life my father lived!
It's Forrest Gump, only with bass playing!
...and a bad attitude.

Was that that Louisiana snow I heard about?

Dig it... early on I ever had one bass, and had no need for another. Only after starting to play on regular gigs did I find need for a second, as backup. But that's debatable if It's kept simple (passive) and in good trim.

I'm pretty sure to be happier with less! I've got to like my axe, but the axe is for getting there: It's not an end unto itself.

Good word there Ken.
This is funny in light of my enthusiasm for building a bass body... lol.
What's also funny is the 34 alerts and many pages that are gone by since the above quoted post! God...

Well the 'S' word may be 'British' in origin but it's not a word normal British people use, to the extent that if you do hear it's actually shocking. It is a term used as a sneer to denigrate people -- it is dripping with condescension, privilege and loathing, and functions as a form of hate speech.

Just thought I'd mention it.
