Beauty is definitely subjective. Heck, my girl still says I’m good looking. My mirror can not confirm her findings 
Just like basses. Was reading through a genpop thread about high end basses. It’s fascinating to consider what shapes each individuals aesthetic. I looked at a ton of very expensive basses and can’t imagine the sort of bet I’d have to lose to be caught in public playing one. Yet to many folks, these are basses you save money toward for long periods of time, hand wring over every detail unto you can afford the deposit to make the order, then wait a couple years for it to get built. I’m not dissing that. Everyone has to live their own dream, but they look like abominations to me and a thing of absolute beauty to someone else.

Again, I have no ill will toward someone with different aesthetics than mine. It just interests me. I probably have a different idea about what I want to accomplish musically as well, and that’s good too

Agreed. I am drawn to what I consider classically designed, production or production-styled instruments. I have had the opportunity to play some very nice custom instruments and they were great but left me cold. I could never see myself playing (and that visualization is part of the process for me...) a bass that looked like a cutting board.
Everybody follows their own path. My path does not have 40 pick-up selection options, 50 knobs and any wood named Bubinga.....

) every single one of their basses I've seen for the first time, has gotten a "W-Tee-F is that?!?
", when it first catches my eye... and not in a good way. More like in a "WHOA! How long has THAT been in my refrigerator?!?", kinda way. I'm sure they make top drawer instruments, and many of their wood finishes are just beautiful... but I haven't seen one instrument from them that I find remotely desirable. I typically find their color choices and designs to be off-putting. Then I see the price tags, which are greeted with a smirk & a shaking of the head as I leave the page 
. On a tangent... why is it that "high end" almost always means "active electronics"? Seems to me that a well made instrument shouldn't need that kind of "help". Why bother with quality tone woods & all that, if you're processing the signal before it even hits the output jack? A 3 hundred dollar Samick can sound punchy & pristine with a li'l signal processing. I dunno... I guess I just don't get the uber high-end thing...

I was more referring to the price. And at that price, not only should it be able to play by itself, it better be able to be the whole band!
I'd rather get a 1958 Gibson Explorer for the same money... at least the value will be retained.

It looks a little baroque and overwrought to me. But, that's just how I see the world. I don't particularly want a toilet with rococo details and gold inlays, either. Dang Puritan, that's what I am.
I mean, it's a bit gaudy but not ugly by any definition I'd use. I couldn't see spending $10,000 on a bass much less $250,000 so any arguments for or against this bass are meaningless.

The price is a little daunting for a bar gig bass. I wonder if it could be had with a relic finish. Then it would fit right in on stage at the Blue Moon.
