Kat... I need to thank you for posting that Aretha performance earlier. I haven't listened to the Queen of Soul in far too long. Since you posted that... I haven't been able to stop! I'd forgotten how much I love her! It reminded me of a very special night. I was working at the Park Garden Cafe in Petoskey, MI. As I was nearing the end of my shift, the place was making it's nightly transition from restaurant, to bar, and the band started to play. Regrettably... I don't recall the name of the band... but it was "thus & such" featuring Thornetta Davis (who has apparently done quite well for herself since then! -

She had such tremendous power, and tone, and soul! She sent shivers down my spine! I finished up my work crap & sat down front & center, 5 feet away from Thornetta, all by myself in a room full of self-absorbed well-to-dos, who were seemingly blind, deaf, & dumb... and just let her waves crash over me like I was a beach. I have danced 3 times in my life. The first, was at a high school dance with my very first "serious" girlfriend. The second was at my wedding. The third, was when Thornetta Davis was singing Aretha's "Dr. Feelgood". It was completely spontaneous. The guitar player took a solo, & she was just standing there swaying back & forth. Before I knew it... my arms were around her and she was giggling in my ear. I surprised even myself! I just drank in the moment, and before I knew it, she said, "Ok baby.. I gotta sing now". I floated back to my seat with a tear in my eye & a smile on my face that wouldn't go away. It was that night that I learned what the power of Soul was. If any of you have ever felt the way that I felt that night... you are to be envied.
