Thunderbird Club

It's one of these -- [This invalid link has been removed] (Solo 18) -- which I managed to buy from California with a fraction of the outrageous shipping costs the TA site is asking.
I need a light for the board. Who knew? It is one of those things that becomes necessary when you find out about it.

The two 2x8's look like they should be mounted on pedestals, like home audio speakers...

Each 2x8 cab does have a pole mount top hat underneath. Greenboy designed the ‘Crazy8’ and ‘Crazy88’ cabs to be multipurpose. Home Audio, upright bass, home practice cab, rehearsal PA. They are quite nice sounding speakers. The little 2x8 is rated at 400 watts average at 4ohms.

What do those 8's sound like?

Man, they’re really pretty sounding speakers. Not much for super deep lows as they start to dip down below 65hz pretty fast. The mid detail is beautiful. I just did this...

Each 2x8 cab is 400 watts at 4ohms, so both would be 800 watts at 2ohms. That allowed me to try my Sunn Coliseum 300 at 2 ohms, which as it turns out, the Sunn LOVES being run at 2 ohms. Nearly twice as loud as the 4 ohm 212 sitting next to it. With both 2x8’s hooked up the lows feel really big and solid. I’d considered doing a 4x8 design in a different form factor because I love the sound of these speakers, but they’re expensive speakers, so I kinda doubt I’d do it considering what I’d have to charge for the cab

Stop putting up photos of your music room!

I love the sound of these speakers.

After picking up a PJB, briefcase, that made me a believer in those small cones too.
And the PJB's are even smaller @5 inches!
Likewise, these small cones sound great for DB, who woulda thought right?
They really seem to translate the 'air' that puff of the pluck attack so well.
Usually the super fast transients like that, seem to get lost in the larger cones.
And the smaller cones seem to be way more efficient overall as well.
Cool the way the Subway, fits perfectly atop that mini rig of doom too!

I didn’t! I just put up a photo of a rig I was playing with that happened to be in my music room. I cleaned it recently, so what’s wrong with it now?!

The Mod has a lot more hair and looks much more like Weller.

I believe IKEA has something similar....

I think I may try going back to sealed cabs. I usually use a ported SWR-Goliath-III 410 box. I like it fine but I do need to EQ for every venue, sometimes it's a real bitch. Things can get 'boomy' on those raised stages. I hate that. Last gig even one of the tom toms wanted to go to critical mass on that stage. I remember my old sealed "8x10 fridge" did not have that issue. It got burned up in a house fire when I loaned it to someone. The guy says "your speaker is alot lighter now". I wonder if most of these ported boxes are really voiced more for p and J basses. Of course the solution is always to reduce stage volume. Yeah right.

Ported and sealed both have potential pros and cons (because every cab is a compromise of some sort), but I mostly play sealed cabs these days. Transient response and punch being the main factors
