Thunderbird Club

Nah, it's a box with a momentary switch labelled 'give Vince 666 volts'.

Hope it's not this.

I'll tell ya what's wrong! The Gretsch is gone, and I don't have it!!!

It’s in the music room...somewhere :)

"Also, which speaker are we discussing?"
Just the smaller cones in general, as they relate to being a nice choice for DB's

"It’s all about the design."
Absolutely! there's no denying the awesomeness of an efficient speaker (regardless the size) when paired with an efficiently designed cab (again-regardless of the size)

Another thing that has recently been mentioned round here is the use of a high pass filter ala' the Thumpinator. I use one all the time, it's my constant end-of-chain charm.
I've been thinking about picking up an Fdeck HPF too. But I haven't been using the doghouse much lately (Norton custom Shen SB 100/innovation silver slaps/full circle/platinum pro) again, with the SFX at the end of the chain.
I also use a BSX Allegro. again it's been awhile.

Nice! I have a couple fDecks and just got a Broughton Audio pedal with an HPF and an LPF on the same pedal. Can’t recommend em enough on upright bass, but they can be very helpful with electric bass too

Interesting. I bet a 4ohm 2x8 and a 4ohm 2x12 built into the same ported cabinet would sound interesting. Would think with the right crossovers you'd get deep rich mids and tight thundering lows in a manageable sized cab. But I know nothing of bass cabinet design, I'll leave that to the experts.
I’m always pondering different design ideas and there are many ways to ‘get there.’ Mostly, making sure parts cost isn’t so crazy that the cab becomes unaffordable

I'm not a church goer as well, but to this note Steve, i have to give mention to @Dr. Cheese. He's a good bass player and plays in his church band. Seems to be a lot of good musicians at the house. He just doesn't have a ThunderBird.

Hey I’m only good at what I do. I’m not as versatile as many of the truly top level bassists who post here like DWbass.

Keep the Ric, get the VP.

A buddy of mine at work has the VP and it's nuts. I've played around on the regular IVs, (wasn't blown away, but was also at GC), Classic IVs (a marked step up) and the Pro IVs (check out the hand-oiled one, pretty cool, but didn't excite me), but the Vintage Pro was on a whole other level. Fit and finish was excellent, and the tone ranged from well, thunderous, to (and to quote another TBer who's name I forget) "like an angry piano."

It's hard to describe how much nicer it was than the others I've played (not to throw shade on the other models), but I was astounded. I can see many jam sessions along to Who records with it. If only my John Entwistle Tbird rip-off would sell. :banghead:

If I get reckless with my hobby fund, you guys will be the first to know :roflmao:

So I'll pose a question that I like to ask of people that make a living out of building things that other people want...
If money were no object and your goal was to get the best stage sound out of your Lollar Bird using your YBA amp in a medium to large dance hall type indoor venue what custom speaker/cab design would you spec?
This isn't a trick question, it's just fun to see the direction a builder would go vs the direction everyone else asks them to go.

We're a shameless group of enablers here, so beware! My advice is to cave in immediately and buy one. I know all about the angry piano:laugh:
