Thunderbird Club

I'm probably going to go with one of those pedals. As an owner of an original 360 and a Grexa reissue, I'm sold on what a 360 can do, including the fuzz. If I can approximate that sound out of other rigs and into a board, I'll be happy, never mind the additional wall wart. It's just a cash flow issue. After tax time, I'll know if it's doable.

Man, I just got my annual tax return: $ 8,30... I'm gonna go on a spending spree now! :banghead:

Played mine in church this morning. They don't call it a Thunderbird for nothing . Huge thunderous full low end that just makes you bones vibrate and buzz and still there's that sizzle.

What is that church thing a lot of people keep talking about?

Anyone, by chance, happen to know exactly what color Epiphone uses for their flat black poly finishes used on their Gothic guitars/basses?

@godofthunder59 once told me what rattle-can to buy to touch up my SS Thunderbird which to me appears to be the same flat black. Perhaps, he could answer that for you since I do not remember. Sorry.

I'm a stickler about tuners in general and I would do exactly the same. It's only an aesthetic thing as the tapered tuners work fine and can be had for cheap - which is why they are on many, many, many cheap basses. It's a detail on the VP that I would address if I bought one.

I finally got my hands on a VP this weekend. My buddy Keith got one in VS and he played it out for the first time Saturday night and it sounded great! So I got a chance to noodle on it and it felt great and sounded good even unplugged.

I didn't notice anything unusual about the tuners. What is this tapered tuners thing that you're talking about. Tapered versus non-tapered? What makes them cheap compared to the non-tapered?

And he sold eleventy billion records, so apparently he was right.

...and it got him this. ;)

Hmmmmmmm I have no memory of this conversation. The Gibson SS Thunderbird is lacquer, not sure what the Epiphone is though I am guessing poly. For the Gibson I would suggest trying Mohawk flat black. Not sure how it is going to work on the Epiphone.

I found our conversation and I'm glad to see that your recommendation stands! Mohawk flat black it is!

NBD has just occurred!

Thanks to Andy, I was able to snag this beauty and there isn't a scratch or a nick on her! There is one thing that isn't stock as far as I know and it's not a deal breaker for me but it makes me shake my head a bit on why it was done. Lol

Anyway, here's some pics.

So I finally have my SS Thunderbird and it's time to unload my SG Bass.

So is that white paint on the edge of the headstock or did they actually remove wood?

It's silver paint. Odd that.

Edit: Now you've got me wondering, Scott. Is the headstock not supposed to be recessed on that one side where the silver paint is?

Honestly not sure I had one for about a minute can't remember oneway or the other. Either way flat black touches up easy if you are inclined. I would use Mohawk flat black.

Thanks, Scott. I'll be ordering some for sure.

Mohawk are pro grade finishing products the flat black in the rattle can is lacquer should work fine, test a area first!

I seriously considered buying my Hofner in the blue colour in your avatar but decided to go with Maroon instead which I love.

You're going to love your VP TB. Epiphone really hit it out of the park with their Vintage Pro model.
Maroon?? Cool!! I have a few German made Hofners which are great, but I really have affection for these Asian made ignition models, they feel pefect and the sound is fantastic to me. As for the VP TB T Bird, it just seems to be the same, Asian made, and perfect for me. The Bird to have!
