Didn't know any of the T-bird's out there had tapered wings like the '63-'65 (does the Gibson 70's RI version have tapered wings?) ...and under 9lbs
I don't know which model Gibson the Orville is based on to but it's just beautifully made.

Yes, and that's what sets it apart. The wings are attached to the neck-thru body with V joints and as you note are tapered thinner from the joint to the edge. Details that were never carried over into the many iterations since.

It's set neck (there's a faint crack in the finish around the neck joint). I'll try to get a photo of the wings after work.

I thought current 'Birds had a similar v-type joint. The way wood works, they don't have to for a strong joint. Tapered would be a PITA to make accurately. It's no wonder they stopped doing it.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the price of Thunderbirds has gone up pretty dramatically lately. Either that or people just don't want to sell them. We need to quit arguing with people about neck dive and start complaining about it to make the prices go back down, just in case one of us needs another one.

The D Bird has tapered "wings" as well, although I assume the body is CNC'd from a full body blank since it's a bolt on rather than neck through.
The tapered body/wings on the Dingwall is hot. That to me is way sexier than contours on a Precision. And i still like Precisions.

Will, '76's and post'88s all have the V joint between the body and wings, it's much stronger than a butt joint, Studio's being the exception of course.

That's cool - I'd guess you are correct (one piece CNC tapered) and unlike being totally flat or raised center it is tapered and raised only on the front. Cool Strat-jack placement but where is the strap button?
