It was difficult to get the focus, but it shows the V joint on the lower bout of my '64. It has a slightly darker tobacco 'halo' there but it can be seen in good light - reflections were my enemy. The neck shoulder area is too dark to reveal the joint.

When I made my Factorbird - I molded it after my '64 T-bird.

I have now completed my first ever hospital stay, which was a pretty good run for an old fv<& with my history of "fun". Anyhow, I am happy to be home and back amongst the family here!

End shots of a couple Thunderbirds, seems tapered wings are very common. I didn't shoot pics of all of them, the Greco was downstairs in the display case, it's taped as well

One of these things is not like the other ones! The Jackson, with a bound top, no taper, has a tummy cut. In playing this bass I've never missed the taper, it hangs nice on me and is super comfy for a 3 hour night on stage.

That Cat!
When I drive up to the house after a long day at work she's sitting on the window sill watching for me, when I touch the garage door opener she hops off and runs down to the basement door to greet me. We have to have about 5 minutes of petting and rubbing, a long with some gentle biting from her, then it's dinner time. In the pic she had just eaten 5 minutes or so before, she totally cleans the dish eating everything all at once, not finicky at all, probably left over from her time as a stray.

Gotcha. I hadn't thought about it at all. Side grain glue is plenty strong by itself. It appears that the Pro IV was made with butt joints. I can't tell by looking at the Gibsons. An example of a non-shaped side grain joint is just about any multiple piece 7ender body. They do no shaping for joints whatsoever. It's just a different philosophy. None of them (meaning my 'Birds) have much taper to the wings. They might have a little, but that's probably from finish sanding. All these little differences and similarities are fascinating to geek out on.

OK the Epi Vintage Pro is as blinged as it is going to get. Has had one practice, another this week and first gig the following weekend. I suspect it will sound sensational.

Fender pure nickel rounds 45- 105.

Actually a little less neck heavy than when I bought it.

Those bursts are beautiful and the white ones are stunning, but I am glad I got a black one! B- B- B Bad!

My Goth is built the same way, no taper, both front and back raised sections are glued on to the slab body. Both my Gibson TB and Eppi VP have tapered wings but the Gibby taper is a bit more extreme.
