Thunderbird Club

It came straight to Vancouver from Nashville in the box. I was so excited when I opened the box that I inspected it, played a few licks on it, paid, and took off home without plugging it in.

I got home and plugged it in and hummed, loudly. I figured out that the hum was coming from the bridge pickup. Like, obnoxiously loud. I pulled the control cover off to see if anything was loose, tested all the grounds. Nothing. Then is stopped humming when my fingers were on the strings. Ground problem. Traced all the wires. Nada. Took it in to the shop and they tested it. Couldn't sort out the issue. Something int he preamp is not correctly grounded.

Looks like they're getting a whole new board to put in it.
Wow! does THAT suck!:(

Thx. I'll have to give that a listen. I started on EB-3's so I got used to wallowing in the mud. Then I heard(live)my first 'Bird and the EB-3 went in the case where it sat for years 'til I sold it to someone who'd use it.:)

I'm sure Carlo has but he hasn't been in here for awhile. He has a "bass mule" where he can experiment with P/Up placement.
Hmm. I'll bet my local luthier could rig something up like that[my knowledge of electronics goes: plug it in,if it works, great. If not,:help::D]

I could get into that. Still a huge fan of the modern SG/EB sound. If I could have a TB pup in the Precision sweet spot and one in the SG mudbucker sweet spot I'd be a pig in slop - may sound like one too, but that's ok, for me grunt is good.

I remember seeing a pic of one of Carlo's three pup creations, it looked cool too.

Have ya ever checked out Epiphone’s Allen Woody sig model? Sounds like it might be up your alley...

The '68 EB-3 I had could fartify almost any speaker, Those old ones were known for blowing spkrs. if u started out too loud. I politely warned the buyer. He later told me he'd never heard that much bass that wasn't a synth.:)

I'm actually a very healthy eater, lots of water as well. Meh. whatever as they say.
It’s all about body chemistry man. I don’t kill strings abnormally fast... but cheap anolog watches quit working if they’re on my arm for more than 2 weeks. Then they start working again after I’ve had ‘em off for a couple days. It’s been that way for most of my adult life. Can’t ‘splain it...

Those buckers have more output than many active basses. I had one in a Pbass once and it disloged 2 of the 15's in my Sunn 2000's setup. Amazing..

Magnetic personality.

Crazy thing is, i'm not a profusely sweaty person. And i'm not gigging, that's when the real sweat rolls in. So i'm at a loss as to why at this stage of the game, strings just don't go a long way for me.

Maybe you should try using coated strings?
