I do enjoy a good Skynyrd chat, they nearly always end up with someone saying they were crap and tuneless.

Same boat here. About the only thing I can pick is my nose, and I'm not very good at that either.
I told myself I'd learn how to play with a pic once I got my Eppi VP, Thunderbirds just sound so right with a pic, but being the lazy sod that I am it ain't happened yet. I'm thinking formal lessons will be required, it just seems so awakard every time I try it, which is odd considering I play guitar with a pic.

I'm in the same camp. I've tried playing with a pick, makes me sound more of a hack them i am. The plucking method works fine for me, of course within my limits.

When I was working 6 nights/week(80-83)I used both methods-pick for punch, fingers for mellower. Just about equally adept at both. Now,40 years later(+/-)I'm equally adeptless(?) at both.

I saw Skynyrd sometime back in the mid 70's, I think it was at Carnegie Hall, but i don't remember for sure. They were drunk of their @sses. They could barely stand, let alone play.

Another good piece of advice would be to not leave gear in your vehicle unattended.

Pick or fingers? I say whatever works for you, one is not "better" than the other. John Entwistle played with his fingers and is considered one of the best. Paul McCartney played with a pick and is considered one of the best.

I can play bass with fingers when needed, but I play bass with a pick because I like how it sounds and feels. Same with acoustic guitar.

Skynerd was great. Unfortunately, after the plane crash, there was an attempt to milk the brand equity that the band had built. Skynerd continues to tour, but I won't see them as it isn't really Skynerd.

I get your feeling that way but remember there was a period of no Skynyrd for awhile. Rossington and wife had a band for a time but Billy Powell was the one responsible for getting the survivors-and Johnny-back to being Skynyrd. Lots of groups have replaced 1 or 2 members and carried on. They just did it(involuntarily)in a more drastic way.

True. But not entirely possible. Post gig meals or even while loading unless you can make it one trip. But thieves will break in just because they see a sticker just to be buttheads. That can be political,music related, or even just an opinion. Besides, the newer vehicles don't have actual bumpers.

My Silverado, a vehicle, has chrome bumpers.

My hands are still holding up ok. I can practice about an hour straight before a possible seizing up of the fingers. If i were to ever gig again........................

That's what they're still called but how good are they? You never see bumper hitches anymore 'cause the"bumpers"these days can't take the stress. My '69 Ford van was hit in the rear by a full size Dodge and it scraped my paint and destroyed his front end. They save weight in vehicles by cutting back on real steel.
