View attachment 634380 View attachment 634381 So after playing guitar for years (and owning some REALLY nice gear), all the while owning a nice Fender P-Bass and not really playing it, I suddenly had an epiphany. Bass is fun. Really fun. I used to hate it. That damned bass sat there for 20 years. I don't know why it took that long, maybe its the fun of learning a new instrument, and certainly all the guitar playing makes it easier to pick up, but the change has been dramatic. I love it. I'm playing almost all bass now, and very little guitar. Anyway, I picked up one of these last month. Epi Classic TBird IV Pro. Even when I didn't play bass, I always thought this was the hottest chick on the block. On sale for $419.00. Best damn purchase I ever made. Gorgeous, set through neck, monster tone. The ONLY thing I dont' like about this is that I think they went too dark with the wood around the headstock. In my headstock pic, its in great light, so you can see the difference, but in dimmer light, the whole thing looks black.
PS I can live with it!
PPS I'm already thirsting for the black pickguard, but apparently, as has been mentioned, the Gibby one won't fit, and the instant gratification side of me hates the idea of having to trace this one and wait.

The family is getting a new member. I called the guy and he talked himself down 10% to 170.00, needs a little TLC.
No idea. He drilled out the strap buttins and a third. Pawnshop said they look "large" so I will have to drive dowels , sand and paint... That shouldn't be to hard. She's going to need a good serious pollish.i was looking at that with my friend today.. i wonder how it got so beat up
Dagnabbit...i saw that one but never realized it was just on the other side of Houston.[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Relicbird... Yesss.or you could relic it... thats probably what i would do
Relicbird... Yesss.
I've been fantasizing about a reliced bird in orange with a checkerboard center. One day when I can afford to trash a bird...
Shut your pie hole! My pipe dreams need to remain pipe dreams. And it was gonna be a G&L for the record. I dunno, too much GAS not enough funds. If Gibson's pricing department ever stops smoking crack I'd love me a gibbo bird, and eBay seems to have a relatively steady stream of older birds. Yeah maybe ill just buy one of them 2014s in walnut when they start goin on sale and grab like an '09 to make into my orange racer. But I've been loving all my old school funk stuff and am doing more work in the blues/funk/gospel scene and a P would fit there so perfectly. You could always get a cheap Epi and mod it instead of saving up for a Fender...![]()
Not a tbird (or a bass for that matter), but I thought you like to see some different techniques for matte finishes.
On the explorer here I did progressive wet sanding on the back, up to 3000 grit, and hand buffed with minwax paste.
The front and sides are 0000 steel wool and 50% diluted murphys oil soap.

pics dont do it justice. The back is like a black mirror![]()
Cool...
But where in the process did you use Meguiars Ultimate Compound?
Couldn't you just have used this instead of progressive wet sanding?
Have a bass with several scratch marks after PO played it with a studded wristband, and am trying to figure out the easiest way to remove these.
