Thunderbird Club

BTW, probably a dumb question but what's that wood mustache lookin' thing-y on my NR's pick guard?:bag:

It’s a tug bar... Essentially the same as a thumb rest, before manufacturers realized a thumb rest above the E string was a better idea. A totally old school thing when bass players played with their thumb.

Yep. Same seller. Made by BHK (they make lots of budget-type pickups) and this is what they send you:

I tried playing w/ the thumb after seeing Brian Wilson in an OLD video. NOPE! I could move it above the E. It'd look like the Thunderbird was sitting on a branch:smug:

I'm inclining towards no pickguard and a chrome control plate. Ashtrays are a step too far for me I'm afraid mate. Lollipops for sure.

I really dig the retro vibe of pearloid, but no pickguard would be much more in yer face. If you pay all that money for a bling finish, might as well show it off.

Hipshot A type Fender mount seems to be the go.

If you're going for a Warmoth body, you can specify you want it back routed - Then you won't have the need for a control plate...

Hey Thunderbird lovers. I currently own a Gibson Tbird in cherry finish, and I'd love to add another one. I'd really like to have a Blackbird or a Nikki Sixx Bird with the maple wings, but sadly they're just not out there. I'm looking on ebay, and I'm wondering, why are there SOOO many Thunderbirds there from Japan? I mean, like 90% of the Birds on eBay are from Japan. What's the deal? are they legit? It just worries the crap out of me to bid on them. Any insight?
