Not the best comparison IMHO...

I don't think my VW Polo 1.6 TDI is a lesser car just because of a slight modification of the air intake and a firmware upgrade. It's still performing as good as it did before the upgrade/modification and has more or less the same - if not better mileage than before. So I'm happy with it, and have no plans on selling it for now. :)

Just like musical equipment, there is no "best". The closest you'll ever get will be, "best for me" (each individual). Straightaways that are no longer than your living room, that end in hairpin turns on 4 foot wide roads, are less than ideal for a 5,000 pound car with a 1,000 pound chunk of iron powering it. In Vince's case... he could ductape the pedal to the floor & drive flat-out for as long as he can stay awake & keep it between the trees. "Best" is in the eye of the beholder;)

And on top of that, the PT Cruiser has a turning radius (is that the right term?) of a ferry - So not the most practical...

I had a BGT for a while. It was a fantastic little car. The lever shocks were awful, and the Prince of Darkness was always lurking somewhere, but I miss it anyway. It was originally orange like yours, but somebody painted it white somewhere along the line. I even like SU carbs, so long as they are allowed to breathe and aren't strangled with anything anybody thought of after about 1909.
