Another over my head?

I believe that the inlay has just aged and gone to pieces. I've seen pics with this happening on other headstocks and makes me think it must be common.
Is it not mother of pearl? I don't understand how the lettering has sort of blended over the black of the headstock as if it has smudged, even a decal under the lacquer shouldn't do that. I have of course no actual idea what it actually is made of and am 100% clueless

That's what i'm not clear on as well, was there even an actual inlay, or was it the gold lettering?

We have news of Gibson? just to know if the Thunderbirds will become a rare bird...
I think this Chapter 11 reorganisation may last a long time. I don't think it's something that can be brought to any conclusion overnight but I have a suspicion that Thunderbirds may well become rare birds at least for a while while Gibson regroup building the more popular/higher selling instruments. I could be wrong, I think I was once ;)

Indeed a chapter 11 (or a chapter 7 for that matter) is no fast process. It is a negotiation process supervised by a judge; so all the joys of negotiation with multiple parties who have disparate agendas with the added fun of doing it through a court.

The good thing is that it appears that all parties agree that Gibson is the great part that all the parties want. So, they will all agree to making it run well while the other parts get sorted out. The albatross appears to be the electronics businesses. It will take time to find a buyer and if not, it will take time to shut it down and liquidate the pieces.

So, don't expect any big changes in Gibson in the next year. Or put another way, whatever they are making now, is likely to be what they keep making.
