Thunderbird Club

I had an interesting experience last Saturday. I had to attend some compulsory training for the charity I’m a member of. I attended with one of our singers.
As we entered the room one of the trainers came over and said ‘I know you two, you’re from the Rendu’s ‘. We said yep, she points to the singer and said ‘you sing’ and then to me and said ‘ and you play an instrument’.
Not bad seeing wd worked out it was over a year since she saw us.

My first time being recognised outside the actual playing situation.
Careful Icarus. Remember what happened to the Beatles;)

Not sure what it is but I am always drawn to a Humbucker sound vs a single coil on both guitars and basses. As opposed to the HSS Strat, try to talk him into a Blacktop Strat. I have one and it runs circles around my HSS and SSS Strats. They're probably discontinued now but used Blacktops are still very obtainable and affordable here in the states (around $400). The thing he'll like vs an LP is the vintage Strat neck and Alder body, not to mention the familiar Strat shape and feel.

The magic is in the super hot Humbuckers and unique 5 way switch that solos, splits and combines the coils of the two Humbuckers as follows...
1. Full bridge Humbucker
2. Outside bridge single coil plus outside neck single coil
3. Both Humbuckers full on
4. Inside bridge single coil plus inside neck single coil
5. Full neck Humbucker

The other big difference is you actually get a tone knob dedicated to each pickup. That combined with the switching options gives you fantastic tone shaping. This beast can pull off a good LP sound as well as a Telecaster sound and everything in between. Here's a review of one...

Mine is black on black with a maple fretboard, here's a pic...

I dig the amp knobs! Nice touch:cool:

OMG - he's going to be invaded by Yoko Ono look alikes with equally poor singing ability!
Gigging at the Long House in Gilroy today. Ever been? My wife plays for the Faultline Devils (roller derby team) and they are doing a fund raiser. Always a fun gig. Taking the 68 NR, my 69 SVT and my EV 18.
Should be a blast..

Looks like fun! If it's the place I'm thinking of its right on Monterey road in "downtown" Gilroy. I popped in there one evening but left pretty darn quick, at the time the bar area seemed more like a country western venue, lots of cowboy hats and boots. That would have been back in the late 70's or early 80's when my hair was about shoulder blade length and I was usually sporting a tee shirt, jeans and flip flops. It's probably changed a lot since then (I know I have).

Actually my favorite place down in that general area (coyote IIRC) was the Flying Lady but I think it's closed now.

Great pic of the Rollers! Would love to see them play sometime. Let me guess - your wife is RoxXxy?

Hi All: I got an offer for my band to play a Wild Wing Cafe for 3 hours (three 45-min sets). The manager asked what we charge. ??? :)

What is a reasonable fee for a new band with no following that wants to make friends with the establishment? Thank you
All: Thanks for your feedback.

If interested, the band collectively decided to do the show for food and alcohol. I added into the agreement that if the establishment liked our sets and invited us back we would revisit the ‘fee’ discussion.

Hope I didn’t ‘F’ it up. We have no following other than friends and family (I don’t count that as a following, right or wrong). We’re not in it for the $$$ but (me at least) considers other bands.

Again, hope I did not do a bad thing.

Only bad thing would be, is if you didn't play your heart out. :)

Nah man... that's not an uncommon thing for a new band. At the very least... you get gig experience and a little publicity. If you were in L.A., you'd hafta pay for that:thumbsup:

Like GBass said... now it's up to you to go show them why they need pay you to come back!:bassist::bassist::bassist:

If I was being cheeky I’d suggest that was Fenders Firebird... with the two little buckets and all...

Yes, ‘they got everything they ever wanted’.

Sorry - threw some Wonka in there for you.

And no worries, it was a bit of an odd experience.

OMG - he's going to be invaded by Yoko Ono look alikes with equally poor singing ability!

Oh No !

Yeah that's the one! Flying Lady's long gone. Nothing has changed at The Longhouse, slice of Americana..

Nope! 1 of 400, Limited Edition Epiphone Custom Shop, mint condition. Not a mark on her and she really sparkles under the lights.... ;)

Oops... Got that description from Larry V...
It's a limited edition alright, but I have no idea about how many were made... ;)
