Thunderbird Club

Kinda partial to vinegar based sauces.

I like the vinegar as well - it's the molasses that I can do w/o. Gates is closer to a standard sauce but better, but Arthur Bryants is in a league of it's own - nothing like it and once it's in your bloodstream it's a must have. Visiting KC and not dining at both is missing an essential element of the history and character of KC.

It's called a 252 which means 2-15s,200watts. It's in my "Amps" pic in the back. Bought it in '70 and it'll still blow people away.View attachment 3024157 I guess I gotta re-do 'cause I didn't have the R112 when I shot this. Hafta wait 'til the rain stops, though.:D
Nice amp collection. I remember that Kasino model. I rented one around 1980 for a gig at the County Fair. Sounded really good I remember. The separate head/cabinet version was way more "transportable". What were they thinking?

I prefer his less sugar/molasses offerings but for a BB sauce that is easily found in a grocery store Stubbs isn't bad -

They had an interesting idea for multiples. You'd have a "combo" like mine then you could add "modules"(their term). There's a weird power outlet(4 of them) on the back of the control panel that "modules" plugged in to. Each "module" had an amp INSIDE the cab(no access). You could string as many together as the power supply could handle. Each cab put out 200w, all controlled from the one master. I always wanted to get a 6x12 module to go with it but never did and I'd be surprised if any still exist!

Really interested in this string conversation for a T-Bird going on here. Strings can be so much fun.

What I’m really curious about, however, is ACTIVE pickup replacements. I have an Epiphone TB Pro IV with the stock pickups that I want to replace at some point. It needs a new setup before I really get to using it (which makes this string discussion fun — I have tons & tons of options), but I know I’m going to want new pickups.

The problem is that most of the pickups I know of for TB’s are passive. I’m looking at active as of right now. What are your recommendations?
I didn't care for the pickups in my Pro IV. It has Lace Alumitones in it now. They are passive, so that doesn't really answer your question. On thing that comes up as much as the pickups is replacing the preamp.

(most) EMG pu's are active (low impedance). Most other pu's are passive and matched with an active preamp creates the active character of the output. (if I'm understanding your inquiry correctly)

Nah... I'm just going to hold onto "Dorothy" for awhile longer. Someday someone will want it bad enough to cough up the $500. ;)

I thought we had established somewhere here in this Club that the Limited Edition runs were 400?

Those are limited run Gibson’s...

Epi’s are more likely 4000 or 400 a year, judging from how frequently they show up 2nd hand.

To go passive... :D

No, no where near that many. Rob van den Broek @Basvarken can probably give you the numbers for each group that were produced. It was a project that started way back, I think in the days of "The Dudepit".

The first run of Bach Birds was a total of 30 I believe. Whatever the number was, it was very low. Mine came from the second (thin bodied) run. I would be surprised if Bach even hit 100 pieces before they stopped building them.

There is a cherry red Bach on eBay for a good price. The seller is a guy some of us know from the LBO and a good dude. These don't turn up often and this one is less $$ than I sold my ebony model for.
