The one at the drugstore in Kew Gardens/Vleigh Place, 1962, worked. Was on a counter next to the cash register. Could never figure out what those glowing glass things were. But was fun watching people testing their glass.
Those are what we refer to as "ChinaBuckers". There are a number of folks around here that have 'em. The general consensus seems to be that they're a good bang for the buck, and the people that have them don't b!tch about wanting to replace 'em. I guess you could call it, "endorsement by default" or sup'm

After doing some reading, I'm probably not going to waste the effort on the Chinabuckers. Seems they're shallower than others, and more importantly there's the whole microphonic wild card. My band plays pretty loud and this would not be good. I have a Thunderbucker 66S in my Dunable Thunderclapper which I really like so I guess the writing is on the wall. Seems odd to buy pickups that cost more than the freakin' bass.
The CB’s are a bit microphonic. My only real complaint with them. I had gotten such a good deal on my burst Epi, and a good deal from @bylar13 on the Lollars, I just couldn’t pass up putting them in. And I agree with you on the ThunderBuckers.

My mistake. I took it as:
"What kind of doofus are you? If you had kept that up, all kinds of musicians would be beating a path to your door and filling your pockets with their gig money as they asked you to diagnose and repair their amps" Or words to that effect.
It was at one point a considered career path. Enough so that I turned down scholarships to study electrical engineering. Hard to know with certainty, but I think I made some wise career choices. Or at least career choices that play to my mental peculiarities (I may have mentioned before - starting a drug company is only done by the stupid and the mentally ill).
I live near LA so I don't have to go very far to get my gear serviced. A clean head is a happy head! We are talking about amps, right?
