Thunderbird Club

I'e always wanted to play with a pick but I am totally incompetent with one. I keep trying to figure it out but can't not be horrible with it.
When I was playing 6 nights/week '75-'82, I used a pick on about 1/3 of our songs. Now, if I pick, I start to cramp around halfway through 1 song.:(

Not with that bass, the pickups have great tone but they're not very hot compared to most anything else in my collection, that bass sounds best played a bit loud through a big amp.

Yes, yes it is!
Didn't know what you meant when you used to compare those 76 pickups to the other Bird buckers out there until I started using a set, definitely not as hot but man, what tone.

Yep, they're not too impressive at low volume, but playing them at rehearsal or a show when I'm pushing the GK just a little - Eargazim!

My right hand will cramp or tighten a little early in the first set, but once past that I'm good for the whole night - I drink lots of Gatorade and take a couple advil before a show too.

Change the $ to £s and they're the same value over here. Big Healys are another story now, Ferrari money
That's insane. My dad had one that I could keep running. He wasn't mechanical at all. He sold it when I got a driver's license. Hmmm... But, I had the TR-2, which kept me amused and wrenching until I went to college.

Nice finish!!

I got one for ya. If ya got a couple "disposable" dollars & ya find 'em on sale... Boomers. The last person I encountered that actually used them, was back in 198?. I'd be interested to hear the opinion of someone who speaks our language. There's been a couple folks that have asked about 'em, and the place went silent. Make no mistake... I don't expect you to like them (hell, I don't even like nickel rounds). The curiosity is more to confirm or disprove suspicions, and to have an answer should someone happen to ask. Of course it's possible that they may have improved over the past 30 years or whatever, so maybe a surprise awaits...
I like them. Not my first choice but a decent all around string for me.

Ditto! The Ghia is one of my all time favorite affordable collector cars. The other being a TR6. Both are a blast to drive, great to look at, easy to maintain and going up in value. I expect their price to about double in the next 10 or 15 years. Get em while you can.
somehow, my HS music teacher used to fit a 3/4 upright in his..

I've been picking some of the tunes in our 80s cover band. I'm going back to fingers now for some of them, it just isn't me, and sometimes it is, in fact, about me. Gotta be that, man.
You're not actually missing that much, but if you're of a mind to, stick with it. You'll eventually find yourself doing something that might be interesting.
A friend of mine years ago had a technique where he'd pick on a downstroke and finger an upstroke, as in a slap/pop adaptation. It was looser-sounding, he got pretty relaxed with it. He just came into it by finding out what his hand was good at doing.
