They can be got from the Philly luthier, the problem lies in finding a reliable source of pickup to go inside them. If Gibson sold the TB+ I would use those without hesitation and strip the plastic off but I don’t want to have to rely on second hand parts for new basses. What I need is a top notch pup off the shelf

Thunderbuckers, Lull, etc. I don't know if any come with gold covers.

Yeah, primarily a Gibson players, the Precisions were usually on there as a backup, after the Jazz (which I believe was only on the first album). Here's a pretty good timeline of his basses:

Little to none American (root. blues) influence....kinda like modern day Troubadours....remarkable band..
