yes - the custom-mix cassette tapes have mostly been 86'd and I have a sizable CD collection also. Not actively buying LP's now but every now and then I'll find one or two.

It had no trouble pushing the 810 I had. How it would do at a gig depends on the venue and band. Of course volume wise, the GK has the edge just because of power. But the 50T can hold its own especially with an efficient cab. But I’ll tell ya. The 50T through the 810 was crushing it

I’ve had a PF-50T for a couple of years now. My thoughts:

It sounds great! I usually use it with 2 x 210AV cabs, although at home I will plug into my 1x15 classic cab.

I play in a cover band that plays jazz, R&B, soul and selected 50’s-present pop/rock. It’s 4-8 piece depending on horns. The drummer is not a heavy hitter and I have never had to crank this amp, even outside with no FOH support.
One day I will restore that Marshall power amp so I have an extra hundred tube watts available. I might need that if I start a dad-punk band....

This is actually a replacement PF-50T. The first one had an intermittent high pitched noise that wasn’t a tube. I brought it in for service with less than one month left on the 2 year warranty and Loud sent back a brand new amp.

There is a 60hz (or maybe it’s 120hz) hum on these thats loud enough to hear at home. (I never notice it at gigs). This is a known issue and there’s a relatively easy mod to fix it, but I’m going to wait until the warranty is over again.

I also have a PF-350 that I use for outdoor/difficult load gigs. If I’m playing upright, I need to use an HPF with the PF-50T, but I think the 350 has one built in.

Thanks to all. That is valuable information. I am currently looking at getting a head and cabinet. My search has lead me through the VT500 and PF500 but recently I have been leaning toward a Darkglass unit I started looking at tube options because the price of a Darkglass unit puts me into tube territory anyway. I have also had a look at some guitar tube amps; there is no reason that they can't be used with a bass and bass cabinet.

My volume competition would be my brother's new 20W Ceriatone guitar amp (which does sound really good).

Fun fact, being in Canada, I can get a Traynor YB200 for about the same price as the Ampeg PF-50T.

Wow!, that’d make it a tough choice right there. Although I believe the 50T will sound bigger and fatter. Can’t say for certain....

Hah! I found a pic that showed of the grill-cloths sparkles and edited it. Usually I can edit a few times before anyone sees my posts on most threads. ;)

I'm right with you. I subscribed to a streaming service a few years ago. By my math, it was cheaper than what I would otherwise spend on CDs. The downside is that there are a few things that aren't there, so I buy them anyway and if I stop my subscription, I lose the music. The upside is that I have effectively unlimited music with me on my phone and I have discovered a lot of interesting music through the "radio" function that I am unlikely to have ever run across and I can be more experimental in my listening. I still buy CDs now and then, but not very many.

My thought is that a 50W tube amp sounds warm and fat. And because of the natural compression and overdrive of tubes, would seem quite loud. And compared to 500 class D watts, could seem just as loud.

I chatted with the guitar department manager about it the other day. I need to make some time to go in and try everything out. Perhaps when I pick up the EB-3 (getting the free set up done on it along with a Hipshot bride and having a set of BEAD DDTs put on). I could pick it up first thing one morning and use it to try out the amps. And I could find out who is hung over. ;)

Edit:
They are annoyingly too good in L&M. They always offer to let me take things (amps, cabs, basses) home to try out for a week or two. They know that once it is home, it is staying!

Back to culinary matters here at the club:

It is fresh fruit season here in Ontario. I love the fresh tomatoes this time of year. Big, flavourful (unlike the hothouse ones you get year round), and juicy. Nothing better than a tomato sandwich (toasted or not) with a little salt. Ripe so that the juice runs down your face and hands while eating. (I can hear @Christine humming the end of the Lemon Song in preparation for an ahem)

Peaches too are in season. They seem a little small this year, but juicy and sweet. I can deal with the size - just have to have two.

I'm not a fresh tomato lover, they have a taste that just makes me, well pull a face LOL Cooked though I love them, they become so sweet and that taste they have fresh goes, weird and a shame too because they look lovely

Most tomato's unless bought from a farmers market are tasteless - a real (organic) fresh-picked tomato is yummy. (especially the little ones - like candy!)

I too have the boxed set. It is brilliant; it isn't just Cleese, but Polly and Manuel who are so well done. I love the episode with the builders and Fawlty has Manuel call the builder a "hideous orangutan".
