Thunderbird Club

I don’t get why people have to be like that.
Just this morning, someone asked if it was worth experimenting with capacitor values in his bass and right away someone posts “this has been covered - search it”
Why not just answer the feckin question?

Proof the GP doesn't really want to help. Not all the time, but it's threads and posts like that...………………...

Just seen a dust storm going over Phoenix AZ on the BBC news, Holy .... looks like the apocalypse has started. Haboobs are they called? Well that's what the weatherman said

Edit, just found it on news page

Massive dust storm rolls through Arizona

This was the largest in a while. I got to drive home 25 miles thru it. The dust was VERY thick on this one. We had a massive one that covered the entire valley a few years ago and since then the news will call even minor dust storms a Haboob. The big storms are not common but typical dust storms are nothing unusual during the summer.

How loud was it compared to a class d amp?

That’s a hard comparison to make. But, I had the GK at the time I was trying out the PF50T.
It had no trouble pushing the 810 I had. How it would do at a gig depends on the venue and band. Of course volume wise, the GK has the edge just because of power. But the 50T can hold its own especially with an efficient cab. But I’ll tell ya. The 50T through the 810 was crushing it

Has anyone used one of the Ampeg Portaflex 50W tube amps? If yes, any thoughts?

I’ve had a PF-50T for a couple of years now. My thoughts:

It sounds great! I usually use it with 2 x 210AV cabs, although at home I will plug into my 1x15 classic cab.

I play in a cover band that plays jazz, R&B, soul and selected 50’s-present pop/rock. It’s 4-8 piece depending on horns. The drummer is not a heavy hitter and I have never had to crank this amp, even outside with no FOH support.
One day I will restore that Marshall power amp so I have an extra hundred tube watts available. I might need that if I start a dad-punk band....

This is actually a replacement PF-50T. The first one had an intermittent high pitched noise that wasn’t a tube. I brought it in for service with less than one month left on the 2 year warranty and Loud sent back a brand new amp.

There is a 60hz (or maybe it’s 120hz) hum on these thats loud enough to hear at home. (I never notice it at gigs). This is a known issue and there’s a relatively easy mod to fix it, but I’m going to wait until the warranty is over again.

I also have a PF-350 that I use for outdoor/difficult load gigs. If I’m playing upright, I need to use an HPF with the PF-50T, but I think the 350 has one built in.

That’s a much better explanation then mine. I’d actually like to try one again. My guess is it would sound great through the Bergantino.

Yikes! A friend at work got caught in one down there recently. It sounded frightening.

That could cause havoc with your air filter and the like, I've only seen anything like that in films before, very scary I'm sure

There are some great people out in the GP, funny intelligent kind and courteous, hold on, wrong forum! :roflmao: No there are but holy :poop: there are some arseholes too, I bet they're all short!

I didn’t mean for my statement to be an across the board thing. There are some threads that are very helpful and informative. One in particular would be the portaflex club. Beans on toast was super helpful and walked me through every move on isolating what I thought to be a problem.

I've had some great help and made a friend or two here on TB, out there in the GP wilderness.
But I've met some arrogance on wheels too. Few punks as well, and I'm not talking the kind some of us like.

We're blessed with nice people in this club, bizarre that really when you consider the Thunderbirds looks make it look like only hellraisers and crazies would own such a thing :roflmao: There are some truly nice people out there I would never class them all in the same boat. Just every now and then all the ones who aren't seem to congregate on one thread and bully the crap out of someone, which I suppose speaks volumes in itself.

I'm not going to apologise for feeling the way I do (and I know you wouldn't expect or want me to); I haven't always been allowed to be such a sensitive soul but now I am I like it, I feel just a little more human (do I hear an ahem coming my way? :roflmao:)

I have a '76 B-15N and love it. It's my main home rig but I've used it a number of times live.

No, maybe an "Amen" or two...
