Thunderbird Club

I went on a nice little vacation this past weekend, it was filled with live music, and misfortune that turned out to really make the weekend!
Most of this was written either late at night, or right now... with 3 hours sleep in the past 24 so bear with me.
Bulk pictures will be put in spoiler tags to condense the post so if you see one of these >

So in true me fashion, my dad and I had a few days off and I needed tires for my car, so we went to Summit racing to a set with zero plans on what to do after that. We left early Saturday morning, it's about a 3-1/2 hour drive. But before we got anywhere we were delayed at least half an hour look for a Tim Horton's that was not under renovation. That leads to the first misfortune turned fantastic... 5 minutes before we got to Summit we heard a commercial on the radio for drag racing and live bands. Well that solved what we were going to do for Saturday and Sunday.
Turned out the track was rebuilt a couple years ago, and it's easily the nicest track I've ever seen! The bands were setup right beside the finish line and it was really cool. The bands I saw were pretty good, and the sound man seemed to know what he was doing, he would actually walk around, sat in different spots for a while and actually paid attention.

Unfortunately Sunday's forecast wasn't looking good, so it was time to move on... we decided on Nashville... again.... just like last time we went to get tires.... at least this time I'm old enough to drink :D
One of my plans for awhile was to see Joe Fick while I was in Nashville. Here is well timed misfortune number two. SOOO, story time.
First bar I go was Crossroads, decent band was playing but we got there during their last song. Finished our drinks, went to eat and walked around outside of the main tourist section. Walked back, and passed Crossroads and see an upright bass, so we go in... it's Joe Fick, with Matt Bowie and Luke McCreary.... they sounded GREAT and put on one helluva show! Turns out Joe only plays there Sunday's and Tuesday's... so if we stayed in Ohio Sunday, woulda missed Joe!
(If you've never heard of Joe Fick..... LOOK HIM UP!!!)

That leads to Monday morning. Went to a few vintage guitar stores in Nashville. Gruhn's, Carter's, and Blues.... the latter is closed Sundays and Mondays..... what kinda guitar store is closed on Sundays and Mondays?!?!?!

Gruhn's had this BEAUTIFUL pink Lull NR, that I fell in love with the playability!!!!!
They also had a 1953(?) EB-0 but didn't snap a picture, along with some other neat stuff.

Blues Vintage Guitar was closed but I peeked in the window and they had an ACC 360/361, some WILD Marshall stuff, and vintage cabs that had a shape that I have never seen before.... really wish they were opened.

Lastly was Carter's Vintage Guitars... fell in love with a Waterstone semi-hollow 12 string... they also had two 1963/64 Firebirds, two original Epiphone Embassy's, and some really cool amps!

Then we left Nashville. On the way home we stopped at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, and I took a ride in Corvette around the track their.... obviously in the passenger seat (no pics of that unfortunately)

Well said Larry.

Any of the black soapbar TB Plus pickups I have removed had cone-shaped springs with the larger part up against the bottom of the pickup. There may be foam in some Thunderbirds, but not any that I own.
Thanks! Any idea if they were half inch or one inch?

Awesome post, Vince! Sounds like a blast! I can't believe I haven't been to Nashville yet...

That fret board would drive me nutz! :rollno:

Everything is upside down except for the diamonds. ;)

But seriously, smack the guy that did that. :rage:
If you’re going with the family, I recommend waiting till your kids are 21

Really? Those music venues aren't family-friendly restaurants too? Maybe up till a certain hour? Either way, my music loving kids will most likely dig Nashville even if they don't get to experience all of it.

Joe Fick is a monster! Been a pal for many years. Luke McCreary is incredible and just turned 17. Guitar hero in the making, for sure! The drummer is Matt Bohli. He played drums on the last Eskimo Brothers record. Our singer/guitarist plays a couple times a week with Joe and Matt. Great guys too.

Got home from tour last night after driving 700 miles, unpacked the van, poured a glass of red wine, chased the girl around the house for a few minutes and crashed hard for 7 glorious hours! Just made coffee and gotta split for a rehearsal with Prayer Flags in 90 minutes. Have a gig with Derek Hoke tonight and Prayer Flags tomorrow. Looking forward to a full day of nothing to do and nowhere to go, but that won’t happen until Friday :/

Most of the ‘honky tonks’ on Broadway are kid friendly until a certain hour of the night....can’t remember the cut off time exactly
