Does this mean it is time to recount stories of bad behaviour in electronics class? Like using the high amp power supply to cut most of the way through the leg of one of the metal stools (ahem) in the lab?
yes except this happened this morning....charged high voltage caps have the energy of a small firearm..
Scared the he11 out of my kids and dog..
and it was running so nicely...please don't ask how it happened..:rollno:

The original "For Dummies" book. Aimed at me I guess.

I recall seeing an Episode of Top Gear with Jamie Oliver. He sat in the back of his type 2 (in which he has a Porsche engine pulled from a 911 IIRC) and tried to prepare a salad while the Stig took it for a lap of the track.

Oh yeah, here it is:

With the Black Stig (Perry McCarthy) before he died in a Jaguar related aircraft carrier accident and replaced by the White Stig (Ben Collins)

Edit
Since seeing that, I have had the desire to create my own Porsche powered type 2.

Used to love exploding the caps in electronics. The bigger the cap (physically) the bigger the bang, but also the longer it took. There was an optimization between speed and volume.
well in this case...500 Volts at 470uFd = 58 Joules! the energy required to move 58 kg a distance of 1 meter in one sec....
not pretty..
