Thunderbird Club

How about a little bling to start the week...

This guy makes some really cool stuff if you're into flash.

Luscious!

Some day I want to get a TBird with a third pickup, made to look as much like a Firebird VII as possible. Preferably red with gold pickups (although this may beat that out). That's always been one of my favorite guitars.

Way back in the olden days of the internets there were several smaller bass forums (BunnyBass and The Dude Pit were two that I frequented) alongside TB. TalkBass was always the largest even back then. The Dude Pit was a fun place with lots of characters (kind of like this club) and that is where most Gibson bass guys seemed to end up. That is where I met Scott (GOT) and Mark/Veronica and several others that turn up on here. I actually met Mark on a work trip to Seattle (but Veronica was a no-show) thanks to the Dude Pit. I also met one of my closest friends at the Dude Pit when it turned out we lived very close to each other. We still hang out regularly.
The Last Bass Outpost spun off when the Dude Pit died. The Last Bass Outpost is a low key forum with a TON of available knowledge from the members. Overall a very friendly spot unlike some forums can be.

So to answer your question: It was a bass forum like TB, but different.
Thanks...so 15 years ago? 20? Too bad I missed it. Sounds like it was fun..

Oh yes.... I’ve been following that. I used to live in Santa Cruz or I should say Watsonville. I was still there during the fires down in Monterey and the whole bay was full of smoke. I’ll post a pic if I can find it.
yeah, 31 confirmed dead, 200 missing up in Paradise, Calabasas not as bad but pretty bad and we, stuck right in the middle..
just in time for rainy/landslide season!!! Oh and there was a small quake Saturday morning...

And people are afraid to live in Florida where we get an occasional hurricane.

Love their music. I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home is still an all time fave- for vocals, guitar, bass, effects, you name it.
I played keys, sax and flute in a 4 piece band in the 70s. We did "Captain/Closer....". I used an upside down cowbell to drone a high D on the organ while playing the flute part live during the "I'm Getting Closer, etc." part at the end.

Just as long as it isn't SF Bay air the last few days - because of the horrendous fires up north the air here is pretty smoky.
I would like this, but I can't. People up here can sympathize completely with problems you get from thick smoke. There's nothing good about what's happening to California right now. The smoke is bad enough all by itself, and that's the least of it. I hope everyone can stay as safe from the fire and as healthy in the smoke as possible.

Link Removed - 2015 'Bird electronics do have some of the same tone/volume adjustment weirdness that a 2013 or 2014 EB has. I had not noticed it, because you have to have the bridge pickup rolled all the way off for it to be particularly pronounced, but it's there. So, there you have it. If that bothers you, then you don't want a 2015.

Funny thing is that the 2015 had a dead spot in the usual P place - C on the G string. It's completely gone for the time being. This bass changes a bit with the weather. Meaning all the time. It would bother some people, but I kinda like it. Or maybe I'm just getting deaf. I don't remember what strings are on it. Maybe that's what changed. They may be Bass Burners, but I don't remember now.

Due to my own failing memory, I put the package or a slip of paper in each bass case reminding me of what strings are on them.

It's been a bad couple years for fires in CA - friends of ours north nearly lost their house last winter and did lose support buildings surrounding their (small winery) property. The house was saved because their house became a standoff for the firefighters due to it's location. Then there was the Santa Barbara fires last spring with resulting flooding and they say this is going to be the way it will be now due to climate change, which doesn't exist ~

Not sure i can describe it quite the way you do. But something like purple mixed with gold, and then a nice tan to round out the bit of blue in there. It's a wide open grindy animal off it's leash.

Excellent description - Elvin Jones used colour to describe his tones.

I moved here in 1990 in the aftermath of the last major quake and have felt many tremors over the years but lately it's been "still".., which isn't a good sign.
