Thunderbird Club

Hello Thunderbird club! Member #376 here! I have Major GAS for a second Thunderbird. I have my eye on the Alpine White Epiphone, so please, quote this post with a Picture of your White Thunderbirds! I am especially looking for the ones with the Vintage look (Chrome PUP's/Tuners/colour going off) Thanks!

Do you mean like these?:

Here's my Epiphone Classic IV Pro. Recently changed the strings to Fender Stainless Steel Flatwounds.

Guitar Center delivered this Arctic White Classic in 4 days from the day I purchased it. Only problem, the case did not show up with it.....oh well, I give em a kudos still. The bass was not close to being usable out of the box, but it was flawless and sounded clean. I took it home, slammed the bridge, 4 cranks on the truss (slowly over 2 days) and it is playing quite nice! Dead silent when it is supposed to be, rich Gibson T-Bird sound all other times. Its a keeper. I would be giging tonight with it if I had the case..... Oh and I finally got the bird back to match the tattoo.View attachment 426373

Lovely basses guys! Am I adding you to our club?

You know you want to!

Nice... How does it sound with flats instead of round wounds?
IMO Thunderous. It gives is a deep mellow growl. It lost the twang you get with rounds; which is fine because I have round wounds on the EB.

The color is Alpine White and I like the white on white. I bought it with the Epiphone case from Guitar Center as part of a package deal the manager offered me.

Can I join? I have an epi pro 4. I looks great but sounds pretty bad. I love the tbird body but I think the epi pro 4 classic would be a better bass because it doesn't come with the cheap active pickups.

Some people have successfully removed the crappy active EQ and turned them passive, which should be an easy mod...

I have a Pro-V lying around, to which I'll be doing the same mod - as soon as time allows...

And yes, the Classic Pro-IV has better sounding pickups...

What problems are you having with it?
Have you ever considered modifying it?
Maybe you can change the pickups and go passive with some Deep Sixx pickups or something similar and add a Stellartone Tonestyler for more tonal variation.
After all, the Pro IV looks great in the natural finish, the neck is incredibly smooth, and it has a better bridge.

Black Nylon Tape Wounds?

Don't they have a dull and dead sound?

I was considering either Fender flat wounds or Rotosound flat wounds...

I've tried the SS Fender flatwounds as well. Didn't see much difference. As for the sound of the tapewounds, no issue the tone knob couldn't fix. What I needed to get used to was how slippery a fresh set was. That had a bit of a learning curve to it.

Somewhere in an older thread there was a link to someone who had uploaded some audio files of a Pro-IV before and after being turned passive.

Although the difference wasn't stellar, I think it sounded much better passive, but YMMV... :)

IMO, the Epi pick-ups in your T-bird are pretty good. They're not cheap. They're also not active pick-ups. It's the pre-amp that's active. You could bypass it & wire it up V/V/T/T?

I have a Goth that I want to mod...black pickguard with red Thunderbird emblem, black and red Les Paul control knobs,

and either the Gibson soapbars or Deep Sixx pickups.

My Pro IV sounds pretty good through my Ibanez Promethean...maybe they were just made for each other.

Hello, here is my 2010 Epiphone Thunderbird :)

It's all stock, apart from the jack imput that came broken with it (sigh).

I always liked the sound but it's got a huge neck so it's not really the most comfortable bass I own; also, neckdive is astonishing on this one.
Still, I love playing it with overdrive and worn stainless steel rounds (as you can see it's got 2 different sets on, I kinda "recycle" them) and it really does its job well getting a grind mid-sangey sound.

Could I get a number, please?:)
