I am still thinking about a string experiment. I have been using nickel strings for some time. So, anyone got suggestions for stainless steel strings I should try (and why)? Anything other than rounds I should consider (and why)?

Dunlop Super Brights. The tension is even across all strings, they're not overly clanky, but have bite. And they just sound great, this is coming from someone who normally doesn't get along with SS rounds. And, they're not expensive.
And they do the low to upper mids things really well with nice low end to em.

Just reading your Sig or whatever I should call it. I’ve spent probably 80 percent of my life playing electric guitars and basses without being amped....for many reasons....

I feel it was a bit of a mistake...much was lost or not made present. I do notice that I often prefer the sound of my instruments unplugged....I often which I could somehow eq it to sound exactly the same.... no colour... no high or low peaks just a nice compressed even sound.... I’m usually trying to get that once I plug in. So much time just sitting around all hours night and day...couch, floor, bed, refusing to put it down but not bothering or being able to plug in. I love watching tv and playing for hours.

Plug it in.

Ehem.

For absolutely no reason except that you have taken over as the official purveyor of Ehem. But, you have been slacking. So, there you have it. I'm going back into ehem retirement now.

I want to try the Dr hibeams. I bought some for my guitars. They’re cheap for guitar anyway.... test was hard to say....I changed nut and strings at same time...too many changes at once will try soon on a different
I like those. Their brightness lasts long and their tension is right on. I use those on my non TBird basses..

I guess duff from gnr uses those. I’ve been thinking about it. I like the extra slinky EBs but wish the g was 45 not 40. I’ve always found E string to be overwhelmingly fat and unevenly low. Been playing the zombie in BEAD somewhat tempted to keep it like that..... it’s different. Standard or half step down mostly. Took me awhile to figure out why someone would tune a guitar to EADGCF....until I looked at the circle of 5ths.

Just sucks that Fender bought them out back when (in 03 or 08 when SWR line was cut short). I've been listening to Ampeg 410 demos online & i'm actually surprised i don't like them more in real life. Maybe just a lack of really pushing one through its pace to my own music. Of all the bands i listen to, at least the older stuff, for sure ampeg was in the forefront of recording.

EDIT: I'm keeping my eyes open for another Goliath II or Eden of the same range. There's a Goliath III in my area for 400$, i'm debating.
Goliath II. That's the one they nailed it with.
