Thunderbird Club

From just above freezing to a warm room, I would be concerned with condensation. I suspect that is the direction that @Engle is thinking.
The fact that it fired up right away this morning leads me to believe that condensation was the issue. I think I'll bring it out next time, but throw my MB200 in the bag as a backup.
If the PF350 has an intermittent trouble, I'd rather find out sooner than later.
What threw me off last night was the first set of cabs I was playing though:

Gotcha. For what its worth, I always carry a tester with me. It was cheap at Home Depot and has told me I was about to plug into a lousy power source. I did it anyway and have gotten away with it so far. Beats me what that really tells you - I am a well informed idiot, perhaps.
I think that would be called cautiously optimistic.

So, I passed on that Epi TB Pro once I saw that GC is doing their used financing thingy, and simply grabbed another Gibby TB, supposedly in great condition, but I've been burned on that more than once. Thank goodness for their generous return policy, but this isn't the thread to discuss GC.

This will be my second Gibby TB, however I'm thinking I'll probably refinish it (not me, having a pro do it) somewhere down the road and wondered if you any of you folks have experience with any of the main Google results that pop up. I was surprised to learn that regardless of how big Texas is, there really aren't any people here that do refinishing. I mean, we are a pretty big state, yeah? Regardless, I'd love to give a Gibson bass an emerald green finish someday, seeing as how I've never seen Gibson release a bass in that color, so I can't just go out and buy one.

Any thoughts on where to take my future business?

I think Pat Wilkins and Marty Bell are both reputable.

The only GK I've played through belonged to the then house bassist at a jazz jam. Out of consideration for him, I didn't change his settings(I was only gonna play 3-4 songs). It was OK and I'm certain I coulda f---ed* with it to get the tone I prefer. Decent small amp-1x10
*ool:smug:
GKs are great. Probably my next amp once I retire from the clampdown and find some work playing out. The pride of Stockton. With Chris Issac, about all it has going for it these days.

Traynor makes some good gear for sure. Some of the old stuff wasn't that great - I had a YVM4 and a couple of YSC8s for a long time.
I don’t know. We used to rent Traynor amps and a PA from a dealer in Santa Barbara for large high school gym shows in the early to mid seventies and liked them a lot. Then again, my rig until 74 was a Bassman 50 with a 2 x 12 cabinet with a bad speaker. Talk about distortion... I have no idea what the head and cabs were, but to a teenager, they sounded wonderful.

Erlewine Guitars
Mark Erlewine is a famous luthier here in Austin. If he doesn't do it, I'd trust whoever he recommended.

No pics yet as it won't be delivered until later this week and GC has already removed the link to the bass. 2013 Vintage Sunburst. As I already have a 2018 Vintage Sunburst, I wanted this a) to keep at band #2's practice space and b) to ultimately refinish in a different color. The price was pretty great, so hopefully the bass shows up in decent condition. I'll probably want to upgrade the bridge first off, but the refinish might happen a while from now.

I called Erlewine a few years back about a similar project, and no longer remember who he recommended, so I should probably call him again to get that information. And yeah, while he doesn't do refinish work by itself, he definitely does incredible stuff way, way beyond my means.

We ran a Traynor PA mixer/amp into a pair of Altec Voice of the Theater utility cabs, 80-82 at a hotel in Miami Beach. Nice and clear, very reliable. I had 2 of those 63 Bassman 50s and 2 2x12 cabs.[ wish I'd never sold them(sigh)]

Sooooo... where do you keep your basses? And at what time of day do you leave them unguarded?

Seriously, that's precisely what I want with this new one. How much did it run you, if you don't mind my asking?

That bass is soooo pretty, I don't take it out all that often so it's in really shape even though I had it done at least 10 years ago. I took it to Mike Lull, it likely went to Michael Dolan, pics don't really do it justice as it's really a step above in quality - way better than one that Marty Bell painted for me. Anyway, it was a cool 1K to get it done, the bass was a wreck when I got it, didn't have all it's parts or pickups or finish so there was no where to go but up from there, not bad for a first restoration

on the left a 76 right? on the right? VP?

I never cared for SWR combos they didn't seem to have enough going on. I played a 350x i believe its called - i liked it. Was a good contender if i hadn't found the 400RB for less. & honestly, i'd never want to part with my goliath - something about it that i love over ampeg, fender, orange, etc. It just has some magic.

SWR was on the map for a reason - :bassist:
