Been hearing this for a while... don't worry, I have no plans to leave the Bay Area - nothing would compare to it. When I moved to the Bay Area in 1990 from the mid-west, there were all these "California Native" bumper stickers. Don't see them anymore. Over population is the cause, not Californians or anyone in particular for that matter.
I lived in San Jose for a couple of years (at the turn of the century). I couldn't take it; too many engineers. And I had no interest in learning telephony protocols just to be able to have a conversation. Traffic was terrible as were house prices and rent. People thought that they were financial geniuses because they had employee stock options in a company that had a webpage garnering views. But I really liked the Faultline Brewery and the Friday night skate in SF.
