Thunderbird Club

I was in Texas on election night this year. It was amusing to watch the returns come in, because there was inevitably some guy who got interviewed grousing about the Californians moving into Texas and altering "Texas values." I'm not sure what Texas values are and why they are different from California values, because from my perspective, the two most onerous states for the kind of work I do, as far as bureaucracy, are California and Texas. The slant is different, but the result is similar enough to make me especially amused. Fortunately, Thunderbirds are perfectly legal and unregulated in both places.

I'm also in Austin and see the influx of Californians, but then I'm more or less resigned to the fact that overpopulation will eventually happen. And I see more than just Californians moving here, as it's actually kind of rare to meet a new person and find out that they were born and raised in Austin. Myself included, though I'm from Houston originally, so all I have to tell someone is that I'm from Houston and they instantly understand why I moved literally anywhere besides Houston.

I love my Astros, but I don't have to live there to root for them.

Growing up in FL in the 70's and 80's, 1 of 7 was Florida born.....wonder what that is is now..

Good advice and spot on with the construction assumptions.

"Everyone I know that owns a JC loves their JC. There must be some serious magic in that bugger. Is there a best year for the JC bass?"

As a Goth owner I completely agree, the rosewood board has to go. Should be Ebony or at least stained to a black finish. I tried the StewMac fretboard stain to darken mine up and the change was barely noticeable. Good news is @Dadagoboi (Cataldo brand bass builder) has an inexpensive sure fire solution to bring it to full black. I'll be staining mine the Cataldo way soon.

I've played the JC a few times. Nice bass, great tone. Two things that wouldn't make me own one: It's long scale, dive prone & just a little weird to play a semi hollow that long. 2, I know this is a gibson design of their Les Paul Signature from back in the day: But the off balance of the cutaways leaves me displeased. Either have it be a single cut large Les paul shape, or double cut 335.

I had stained my goth bird black. It fit the look better - even if i had red electric tape around to breakup the constant black. But i kinda messed up my neck when i was slimming it down & it forced me to steam the board up. Replaced w/rosewood that i got before the cites kicked in. & its also stained black. Fits my theme & can't wait to showcase it for this family. Next year, it's the first thing on my project list of to get dones :)

LOL - I get that impression on every political blog I visit. As a California native I remember the days when being a native here was a badge of honor. Of course now days if you mention it you invariably trigger some poor soul looking for a reason to vent.

it isn't the Californians themselves, it is the politicians you elect...

Intrigued! Are you able to advise or should I reach out to Cataldo?

There's one listed @ Chicago Music Exchange-I was curious.

Highly recommend a nice hollow-body bass. They were second to a P in the 60's - so many bands bass players used them. (Hofner, Guild, Gibson, Gretsch, Vox etc) They are light and have a sound that only a hollow-body can produce, especially with flats.

Yum, I could get into that! The search is on.

I'll see if I can take a better picture later.
