Thunderbird Club

Wow skipping a day or two leaves one with much reading to do.... I posted a thread that exploded into 9 pages in a day....that was even worse. I should never post outside of here...I don’t have that much time.

You were sSOOOOOOOOO Photo bombing to be the 100000th poster. I get it. I’d have tried if I could....until I saw you trying... happy 5000 pages 100000 posts.

I'm the Gurl your mother warned you about! :roflmao:

100K posts is something we all should have a little pride in - you guys are the ones making it happen and stay fun here.

I installed a set of ProSteels (50-105) on the `bird today. So, the steel string experiment has started ahead of schedule. Initial impressions after stretching them - the sound is good. A bit brighter than NYXLs but not a huge difference. The feel is different. Not rough, but not slick like NYXLs. It is a feel I think I will get used to. After installing and playing, it felt like there was some kind of residue on my fingers - perhaps just surface oxidation? I'll see how long they last; for me, NYXLs lasted much longer than nickel XLs.

Any of y'all got good recommendations for good Nitro refinishers? I've been contemplating doing it myself, but I don't really have the space or gear currently to do it myself. I contacted Johnk_10 since he's close by, but unfortunately he doesn't do set neck instruments of this size. So then I contacted MJT, but they only do finishes with some level of aging and I want it looking fresh so I can beat it to hell over the years. Waiting to hear back from RS Guitarworks, but is there anyone else y'all'd recommend?

Well don’t count on finding one at GC. Since about 2016, I’ve only seen the basic Epi bolt one in stock at the three stores I frequent.

Interesting. My local L&M has at least 4 `birds on the wall - 2 VPs, a bolt on, and a Pro-IV. There may be others; those leap to mind. I find that there is as a good a selection of Gibson/Epiphone basses as there is Fender/Squier basses. According to the guitar manager, the best sellers are actually Ibanez basses.

I'm gonna hafta go to a GC or something and play a reverse 'Bird. I've had my NR since 72(or73-I forget). I've never played a "regular" TBird!
The funny thing is I have no interest in a NR. Reverse is the shape that works for me in all ways. Why mess that up? I even try to get other shapes to behave like a reverse Thunderbird.

Outta my paygrade.

IIRC, I've not even held a Reverse Bird. I'm somewhat curious about the feel, reach, etc.

I’d be fine with that. Maybe if we make enough noise. Per a previous post somewhere back a couple of weeks, it sounds like they are well aware of our desire for one.
In a way I hope they don't. I'd have to sell an organ. I have one that's not working(it's a Yamaha).:smug:

You don't have corrosive alien blood do you?
