Thunderbird Club

I exchanged some PMs with him. He went quiet because of some issues with a few people here and some personal problems. I went and had a look at his profile; he hasn't logged in since November.

That’s a shame. Fixer is a good egg.

Here's some quick noodling on the Green Bastard, just to give you an idea of the tone of this cheap kit. Don't mind the sloppy playing, just did some noodling to show the different tones of 2 pickups. Starts out both pickups full, then some of just the bridge PU, then ends with full neck PU. Considering its all stock parts still, I was really happy with how this bass turned out.

Won’t play for me, must be geo-locked

I'll look at him again, his prices are good but I believe I read he doesn't do nitro
Good point. I didn't have him use nitro on my finishes. Check with him, and if he doesn't do nitro I'd bet he knows someone who does.
Maybe Pat wilkensen does nitro. He did a great job on one of my non nitro builds.
Then there is these guys...

I think all they do is nitro. Never used them but the gallery of work they've done looks impressive.

Regarding NR vs reverse ‘Birds, I have both...two Gibson Reverse and a Cataldo NR. I think they both feel great, but I could also see why one or the other might not be right for everyone.
Reverse ergos are certainly not for everyone. I love em, but they feel different if your a total FSO person as I was for most of my career. I found them very comfortable and got used to em quickly, but I’ve heard of folks who find em a tad clumsy to play.
I think NR’s might feel a little more natural for someone coming from an FSO because of where you rest your forearm. But some smaller musicians sometimes find the reach to be a bit much. I’m 6’4” with monkey arms, so it doesn’t affect me.

If I were forced to only keep one...well, I’m glad I’m not being forced. I think they’re both beautiful and fun to play

I'm gonna hafta go to a GC or something and play a reverse 'Bird. I've had my NR since 72(or73-I forget). I've never played a "regular" TBird!
It's almost like a different bass, loved my 76 but if I had to choose, NR all the way, much more comfortable to play and still get that T-Bird sound....the 2013 with 76 pups tore it up last night.....phenomenal tone..

As a guitar player, Strats were my first love and favorite guitars to play. But Fender basses were always sort of “meh” to play, which is probably part of why I waited so long to switch to bass.
I’ve played P and J basses, as well as Yammies and (I think) an Ibanez. I liked them all OK, but once I picked up a reverse (I still don’t think of it that way) Thundebird, I was home.

I'm sure that there is nothing wrong with the Bad Bird or Bad Bird 2 and by all reports here, they are fantastic. But, I am very satisfied with the Hipshot bridges I have installed everywhere. Not that there was anything "wrong" with the 3 point bridges either... Just found what I like and am sticking with it.
+1

I have never really wanted an NR. If someone gave me one, I'd play it for a while to give it a fair shake, but I suspect I'd eventually trade it for the original shape.
I'm not crazy about the surface space of the pick guard, but still interested in checking one out.
That's too bad. I like that guy! Interesting & always had a kind word to say.
Wish he would have just clicked 'ignore', thats what I do.

Hmm. I don't have "ignore" as an option. I read everything. If I don't understand it(technical or otherwise), or don't agree, I just move on. Getting into a kerfuffle with someone literally thousands of miles from S.E. FL seems kinda useless.

To ignore someone all you do is click on the user name and one of the options for that person is "Ignore". I have never used that option but I know it is there.

Oh. OK. I've never run into someone I would totally ignore. Even the biggest @$$bucket has something to say that's interesting once in a while-maybe.

I pretty much just ignore the rest of Talkbass, this thread is where 99% of the action is. The bird brains are a pretty polite open minded group, willing (and frequently able) to stray off the path but stay out of the weeds and mud.

This club is by far the best sandbox on Talkbass and I think we owe that to our very open minded Queen who pretty much lets us play plenty loose but not too rough with each other.

On rare occasion I'll wander off to another sandbox but almost inevitably someone starts throwing sand.

I’m pretty limited these days. I follow here, the Rumble Club, the Mustang Club and recently the Peavy USA Club. I also enjoy the “check in here before and after gig” thread. And I do like some of the music discussion threads, but I don’t stick around if the discussion heads off the rails. For the most part, conversations are amicable and respectful in club threads. I chuckle over @Lennin’s posts in the Rumble Club thread, and shake my head, but I think a lot of what he does is for entertainment. It’s the general threads that I pretty much ignore.

Because I play through Rumbles, I follow The Rumble Club; since they're Combos, I see what's up in Combo Club; as I'm an 'olde phart', I keep tabs on the GOF thread; and, being a Hockey fan, the NHL 2018-19 Season thread is of interest. Others I've peeked at are good for 2 or 3 looks then :meh:. I always wind up back here.

Speaking of a little push, I miss Fixer and his amazing outpouring of posts and ideas. People come and go. 'Birds don't, so that is good. We all need at least one constant.

Maybe I have missed something but where is Fixer??

Yep, a good sort, always willing to be optimistic, and forward in a good way. I miss the old cuss (lol)...

Yep. I enjoy his posts. Hope he returns soon. I’ve been in and out myself over time due to health, family and work.

I miss @theFixer! Good guy, had a wonderful way with words and nearly always upbeat. Had a
PM with him a few weeks ago, so I know he's still out there.
Wishing him all the best of life, love, health, wealth and happiness in the new year, and also crossing my fingers for his return to the club. :)
