Did anyone here buy the SplatterBird??
I looked at it long and hard but I absolutely hate "relic'ed" instruments. It was a light relic job but too much for my taste. I've got bass money burning a whole in my pocket for just the right steal! Still hurting about the Classic White that got away. I'm trying to buy something on CL Detroit right now. So far no luck getting the guy to answer my emails(2 so far).
I wanted to put an updated pic of mine. I ordered asset of 66s from Thunderbucker Ranch and am AMAZED by the difference. It still has that growly and low end heft, but has way more articulation and harmonic content now.

I have the metal inserts on my Warmoth and on the white Epi NR. I had been reading about them right before I started those projects so decided to try them.

Goats hasn't pulled the trigger but he just needs to think about it a little longer and it'll be in the family.
I'm hankering for a 2013 Gibson NR in Pelham Blue!

Update on the chrome project. Tuners are in and required a little drilling on the headstock. I felt really nervous drilling out the tuning peg holes on a Gibson, but I bought the pegs and there's no way they were going to go to waste. So, the big bit came out and the holes got enlarged. It appears that there's some kind of plastic coating on the top of the headstock, just from the way the inside of the hole looked and the way the drill crumbs looked. All's well that ends well, and it ended well. It's a pretty well worn player's bass, so it's not like I damaged a collector's item. Relic? You could call it that up to a point, I suppose. Now it looks more vintage to go with the dings.
I'm still waiting for the bridge cover, and I haven't done anything with the pickups yet. That's going to wait until a visit to our Queen to listen to Mike Lull pickups. Mark graciously offered to have me come down and listen to the various options. Geography is sometimes a bonus!
And, since nothing exists without pictures, here it is so far, all strung up with Ernie Ball cobalt flats:

One other thing - the bridge cover should make the Babicz bridge look very much like an early two piece bridge. The tail of the Babicz looks similar enough to a stop bar that if the rest of the machinery gets covered, it will look much cleaner and neater that it does, or than a Gibson three point bridge. That's the idea anyway.

I will keep you posted. It's probably not going to be until the new year, what with the schedule I have these days. But, I really want to know what Lull pickups sound like. I haven't plugged in the bass with its new strings yet, so I don't know if pickups would be strictly cosmetic or if it's going to be a sound upgrade. I'm pretty shallow, so the cosmetics make a difference. 
Thanks for the suggestions. I decided to do one in the heel as I have a custom neck plate I didn't want to drill thru. Sits perfect now.
Did more work, have more problems. Can't seem to get the neck shimmed right. Wired it up with V/B/T and there is nothing. No hum, no sound, nothing. Checked the wiring a couple times and it's exactly how my wiring diagram shows.
Guess I'll have to take it to my luthier to have him do a look over and see what I've screwed up.

The chrome with the natural gives it a very '70s vibe. Looks great! what kinda bridge is that?
