God damm things are the newest hassle and only make your life (well mine at least) more busy and complicated. And on top of the exhorbitant cost of using it, you are going to have to upgrade at some point. Another cultural necessity to keep you a "customer for life". Almost like whatever pharmaceutical maintenance you may have been ushered into, rather than getting a cure... okay I realized I'm running off with a football no one wants here.

I'm going to need a new lawn.

Hey @fasterpussycat , I do like those sounds you girls are making. Hearty, raw, visceral and musical, bringing me back a bit to what I remember as a fertile musical era. I'm encouraged to hear it.

'Brutal simplicity' are my watchwords.

...It sounds much fuller when we're playing it. The H6 seems to make eveything sound a bit weedy.

Funny how a recording pares you down. Not your ears anymore, something a little alien. Objective, no, but it's a perspective from out there in the room.

She's still finding her 'sound'. She was struggling a bit with the AC30 yesterday. It pains me to say this, but maybe the AC30 isn't the perfect amp for everyone. She could be a bit more Orange or Marshall.

The singer needs to put in some serious work and some of the underlying arrangements need looking at. Drummer and me had a discussion when she was dropping me home and she reckons we shouldn't leave the singer standing around for a minute or two at a time with nothing to do.

It sounds much fuller when we're playing it. The H6 seems to make eveything sound a bit weedy.

Those types of recorders tend to thin out the sound. That said, I liked the guitar sound for the most part. AC30’s can be hit and miss. I personally love em most of the time.

That is one of the reasons I became a hopeless scrounger. Whenever a Shure 330 pops up for a good price, and I actually have money, I make an attempt at buying it. One day, I might use those as overheads. If I could have a pair of RCA BK-5s, it would be a happy miracle.

Didn’t sleep well and am jonesing for more mics, so I researched a bunch of em early this morning...shootouts and whatnot. Temporarily tamed any GAS for a LDC, though I want a couple. But not until I get more ribbons! I prefer ribbon mics so much more, it’s silly

Thanks for sharing those. Seems like the project is coming together for you now. I can't speak for the Zoom H6 but the H1N gives okay recordings but for me/us it has been good to record rehearsals so we have an idea if things sounded like the band was hitting the marks and tightening up or not. Was also good for the singer/guitarist to hear how off he was on a lot of things. Not that it made him any better. I don't need to go into all that tho as he has thankfully moved on.

Just saying! Most of the ones I liked best are out of my immediate price range anyway :/
I missed a window a few years ago when a guy I recorded with (Matt Stager) started making his own ribbon mics. Coulda got one for $500 then. Now they’re closer to $1,500

Exactly. As you can hear, our singer can sing in tune (more or less) but the other 4 songs we're working on she was all over the place. We have four weeks while our guitarist is away to cajole her into shape.

Music is so much of a big part of what our hearts and souls are about. It’s nice to have the types of gear to get the sounds across. Long as we keep doing it regardless of that aspect of it all, is what’s most important. Not exactly sure why I just said that.

Oh, are they those 'power sticks' or whatever they are called - made up of a cluster of fibers? I wasn't clear in my comment (if I may be so bold) I meant to suggest that toms played with mallets would sound more appropriate on that song. The current drum sound feels disconnected tonally.

The sticks look like a bundle of twigs bound together. The drum kit in that room is pretty bad anyway. We may well try the mallets.
