RIP Cathedrale de Notre Dame de Paris....tragic....

I cannot like this. I saw it once in 1980. I came upon it from the back, which is a beautiful sight. There was a cloud that made a halo behind it, which was perfect. I will see it like that in my mind forever. What I see is not the tourist postcard. That is fairly flat. What I saw and experienced was completely three dimensional and spontaneous. Spontaneous and gothic architecture aren't synonymous but should be.

I once played a gig where the stage was built right on the footsteps of the Notre Dame. Need to find those pictures. I just remember the surreal feeling of playing at such a beautiful and important place. Remains a career highlight. So tragic to lose it

That's a memory to treasure. And yes, it would be surreal to play there, no matter who you are. Just walking there was surreal.

The fact that so much Sabbath works well with brass, I believe, supports my thesis that whereas other heavy music of the late 60s and 70s (Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple etc.) was blues based, Black Sabbath was much more jazz based.

Walking around Paris, my thoughts turned to the violent revolutions that the city saw. The reminders are everywhere. The streets are straight and wide by order of Napoleon to facilitate the rapid despatch of troops to any potential unrest.
