Thunderbird Club

This was a pretty fun movie to watch. Lots about pedals in general, with respect to prices, hype, etc. And Steve Albini with the winning comment at 1:26:46.

A really insightful document - its reason to be made was pedals, fuzz pedals specifically but through the interviews reveals more about buzz (see what I did there), hype and human nature in the world of electric guitar oriented music. (including forums...)

Easy. Really cheap "entertainment" that sells lotsa booze. As cheap to produce as a 'reality' show.
I know, I get it. The ONLY karaoke night I thought was interesting was a live backing band setting. Of course the song choices were limited, but it was awesome. Except for the singing... And you’re right - everyone was LIT.

Sometimes for an impromptu "guest" singer, a band I knew in Miami would, mid-song, mess with them by half the band dropping down a half-step. It was hilarious.

It's not bi-amping in the classic sense, but here's where I've landed:

Bass>A/B/Y box, splitting to two amps.
A side: Trace Elliot AH250SMX>Eden D410-T, EQ'd to handle mostly mids and highs.
B side: Trace Elliot (Peavey) Elf>Home DIY'd 210 cab, EQ'd to handle the heavier lifting in the lows.

This is working pretty well, I think, for the reggae tripping- the Eden is not really the box for this, but it's very punchy and hardy otherwise. The 210 is happier pushing some lows, those Eminence BP-102s have some good excursion designed into them, impressive bass for a cheap pair of 10s.
I think adjustments from here will be minor.

Or a karaoke machine. I can’t believe how many places still have a dedicated night or two to this.

I can. It gives everyone who doesn’t have the time/dedication/etc to be in a band, who isn’t that confident, or who can’t sing well enough (or at all) a few minutes in the spotlight.

Count, that is freakin hilarious!! Would totally do that to those deserving of!

We tune a 1/2 step up sometimes in order to stay in standard and we even tell our singer we’re doing it. Yet, he always asks us after the first few goes if we’re doing something different from the recording. :smug:

Edit...

My wife and I, stopping off on our way to Miami before we got married, stopped at a diner in Cocoa Beach. They were having a semi-final event for a karaoke competition. We saw a wrinkled, sun-tanned old woman in a pink terry-cloth sweat suit get up and do a rendition of "Crazy" by Patsy Cline- she was very good, and she gave us the willies! It was right out of a David Lynch screenplay. She had a total take on it, like she'd written it- she brought the "Crazy" home. It was devastating, and very entertaining.
Karaoke can be ok.

I just noticed the figure on the pickguard in your avatar... funny, there was one real nice girl who used to want to sing "Just Like Heaven", and they'd let her up... and once in a while they'd let her have it! She was always a good sport about it, it was all in good fun.

That tune, with that groove, is particularly funny to do that to.

These experiences are why I like - and miss - going out into the world. Thanks, man - felt like I was there with yous and can almost smell the nicotine.
