Hmm. And here I thought it was buy a mattress-or car-or furniture-day.(Navy vet, 64-68)

And thanks for serving GP - I was eligible for the draft but it ended when I was in art-school.('71) Friends had low numbers and dealt with it in various, creative ways. I can't imagine if things had gone the other way - after watching Apocalypse Now when it was new in the theaters, I couldn't stand up for minutes after it ended because the realization of how close I was to being sent there hit me like a K-O punch. My dad was a B-25 bomber pilot (Captain) in the South Pacific but he never pressured me about being in the military. He enlisted and studied/tested for the air force knowing he'd be drafted as an infantry soldier if he didn't - it was a matter of survival. Luckily he made it back home. My partner Beth's father was in the Navy. He's 82 years old, sharp as a whip, a hard core liberal and as anti-war as they get.

I want to remind everyone that Memorial Day is not national BBQ weekend.
Lots of folks fought and died for our freedom.
Please take a moment of reflection for all those who paid it all for the USA and its interests. It's only for those efforts and sacrifices that we have the freedoms we enjoy in this great country.

If you know one, thank and reflect with a gold star family this weekend.
Don't thank a vet this weekend - thank a vet on Veteran's Day.

To be fair, most folks don't know how to support troops. As a vet, I can assure you that the best way to support the troops is to keep enjoying life in the USA.

As a veteran, I post this each year as a reminder to my friends and colleagues that wish me "Happy something to do with the armed forces... I think... Day"

Rmemberance day (11 Nov in Canada and most/all commonwealth countries) used to be about those who served in the military in areas of conflict. These days it has been co-opted by all these "first responders". There is a Firefighters day and a police day. They don;t need to take the day for veterans.

But worse is the Canadian legion. They claim to be an organization for veterans, but in their tiny minds, nothing happened after 1950. And Veterans Affairs have no interest in those who served. It has fought veterans in court in a bid to deny benefits to those who have served.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the way Canadians treat veterans.

I can be the voice of dissension here, I tried TI Flats on my '89 after reading all the hype when they first came out, ugh. Did not like them, they were floppy ( I don't play with a light touch) and the tactile sensation on my beautifully calloused fingertips was unnervingly bad. They utterly destroyed The Big Angry Piano tone I love, oh, and they sound bad with a pick too. #LovingMyRounds


I know they work for some of you, so this is not a criticism, just my lame opinion.

I have great respect for people serving, or who have served. And if they are lucky enough to make it home......
My mom was in the Navy and one of my uncle's, WWII.
I don't think the vets are treated with much respect after they return from active duty.

Yep, it’s super personal stuff. I love the grind and punch on a good roundwound string for many things. In the roots/Americana world (I have several good gigs in those ‘genres’) that grind tends to step into the guitar players sound too much for me. The right flats separate the two instruments well, I think. And as has been said, Cobalts+T Bird+heavy hands (picks are nice too) gets the piano pretty riled up

I don't know this for a fact, but the bass player in the 60's band The Chambers Brothers played a T-bird and I can imagine he had flats on it as they were a sort of soul/psychedelic hybrid. The deep, bassy tone of flats and big 18" drivers was the across-the-board bass sound then. Wasn't until Entwistle started using that trebly 'lead' bass tone (Rotowound strings and guitar amps) that things started changing.

I was pestering him with my questions and he's always been extremely nice and helpful. It was here very promptly and picked it up for a decent price as well. I tried flats. Cobalts and Chromes. There ended the great flats experiment; they are not for me.

same here...tried to like flats many times but no...rounds on all my basses... much easier for me to get a flat wound sound from rounds than vice versa..

The odd thing is that I have been getting fewer junk robocalls lately. I used to ask for a billing address when a human was on the other end of the line - they were using my time and I expected to get paid for it, otherwise it was theft. That was entertaining. Robocalls just get hung up on. Maybe somebody, somewhere, is beginning to nail the perpetrators, but I don't know how exactly. This may be famous last words, too. Or maybe I'm so numb to it that I don't even notice.

SMS phishing and just plain unwanted SMS’s are a royal pain as well.

Story, oldish now but possibly still happens. I expect quite a few of you would know about this.

IOT devices at mines and other fairly remote operations had/have a phone Sim chip to advise when things go outside parameters. In some cases the operation did not change the devices admin login and/or password from the default, or if they did they used a poor password. Admin pw Admin or password - that type of thing.
The ‘baddies’ found them and started pumping out phishing SMS’s. This gave them an Australian mobile phone number. The plant operators only twigged when they got the phone bill.
