See how the D-string plastic spacer/ring is squashed? It's inevitable on the MIC crap. You can by a set of these on eBay or Amazon from China for nothing ... and that's what they are worth.

Take a look at Mark's recently posted trains. They're MADE in CHINA. The Chinese can provide whatever level of quality you're willing to pay for.

Hmmm. Seems like it balances really well right now. Do you mean tuners like I have on my 7enders, but black? I’m not sure those would even fit. :bookworm:

As far as the tuners question, i believe it's these, but don't remember if it's the 1/2", or 3/8th's.

HB6 - 1/2

Pretty sure those are the ones I was thinking of Jeff, they're nice quality and the slightly larger clover is a great look.

Absolutely correct.
The very best model trains do come from China. They're produced in factories with highly trained employees that get paid well. Amongst the best are Rapido (a Canadian company that owns it's factory), Moloco, whose owner Nick Molo is an ex Aussie, now in Canada, Tangent Scale Models, Exactrail, Athearn Genesis, and Scale Trains. None of them are cheap, they use the very best die cutting technology and produce incredible models. If you want the best model trains, they're from China, no other country is even close.

I put nicer knobs (ahem) on the Damnation pedal. They're actually metal.

Last night I finally managed to get the strap length on the JAEbird sorted (I think).

I have been 'struggling' with it for a while. The DSL straps I have are brilliant once you have the length right, but getting there can be a pain in the arse, particularly if you have straplocks ... and loctite. The length is not continuously adjustable, so to change it, you need disassemble the strap and feed it through different slots (just fvck off with your 'ahems', I'm trying to be serious). All this is complicated by the JAEbird strap pins being above body centreline.

In the end, I took the Orville, fitted its strap and arranged it so the strap mid point formed the apex of a triangle, then measured from the E string to the apex. Then I did the same with the JAEbird, doubled the difference and added that to the strap length and damn me if they don'l feel pretty much identical now.

So there you go boys and girls, the secret to setting a perfect strap length is maths.
Then I'm hosed.

I will nit pick that is sounds liked you mathed only once, so math, not maths. ;)

I have a somewhat similar, but much easier system (requiring not even a single math). I have a cheap polypropylene strap. I use that to find the length that works for me then transfer that length to the strap needing adjustment (by direct comparison, so no measuring).
It wouldn't work for me 'cos youse guys are metric.

Gotohs. :) I'm curious about the weight difference of the Gotoh RES-O-LITE and the stock Grovers on the Gibsons. IIRC, years ago I was told there wasn't a big difference in weight saving. If that's true, you might want to look for someone who took the Grovers off their Gibson and get them pretty cheap.

I have the Y-key Hipshot Ultralites on my Carvin. They're great, but nowhere near as smooth as the Grovers on my Gibson Thunderbird.

If going strictly by weight - US made Sperzel locking tuners are among the lightest and best design and can be had in a variety of anodized colours.

The tuners like on a Goth are on so many inexpensive basses. They 'work' but they are basically cheap MIC crap. I replace them with quality Gotoh tuners which look and function much better. Notice the larger barrel posts.

Can you post a pic of the whole bass so I can drool with envy over the color please?

Since it's been solicited by you - I will! (I've been reprimanded as a commercial user from posting an 'unsolicited' image of this bass here, apparently even if there was no mention of it being for sale. I just try to follow the house rules. And it is Thunderbird Thursday.

Thank you, Very cool!

They actually make a lot of really nice stuff, with lots of options of markers and such. I'm really impressed with the ones I got.

Thanks for the info. I have a very nice Foundation with the original, highly sought after knobs. They tend to loosen with use and fall off. I want to swap them for safekeeping as I play it a lot and don’t want to inadvertently lose one.
