I have never flown into Love Field, but I did fly Alaska many times in the early 00s - much better than American.
My last 2 flights: Christmas Day, 1970, Northwest; sometime in July, 67, National. Both no longer exist.
The one, and only cool thing about when i worked at Delta were the travel benefits.
If first class wasn't available, i didn't get on the plane. Spoiled Bee-atch i was.

I prefer to drive. If I needed to go someplace and the only way to get there was to fly, I don't need to go there.
Northwest has been gone less than a decade. It had a good run.
These days i dread getting on a plane. But i can't handle driving, way more then flying.

I love the US Dept of Commerce. They collect a ton of data and release it to researchers. Makes for the availability of good decision making tools (doesn't mean anyone uses it).
Those data tell us that deaths per mile (km) travelled are much greater by car than by any other form of transport (rail, sea, air). And the difference is not small. Of course, travel by highway covers a large range in distances and the other forms of transport primarily serve very long distances. And air and sea travel, when there is an accident, it tends to death rather than non-fatal injuries unlike motor vehicles. Still, I will take air travel for safety any time.
I thought NWA was based out of MSP? That was the major hub. I think there was also a hub at DFW.
I haven’t looked in a while, but the numbers used to be not so disparate looking only at cross-country travel. If we drive, we pick routes and times to avoid as much craziness as possible. We also make sure we aren’t driving dead, and we pay attention. I spent enough time on motorcycles- a good deal of that in Atlanta- to develop very good situational awareness. I still assume half the people out there would kill me if they could get away with it, and the rest can’t see me. This has kept me out of many accidents.
We pick travel type based on time, intent, and cost. When I took my wife out west to see the sights, just driving through it all was key. Some day I want to drive to Alaska. But for now, we fly to maximize time with kids and grands.

Interesting arrangement of equations in the graphics - you don't often see physics and finance co-existing.
The driving flying safety comparison is far from clean (as I was trying to show with the caveats). There is also the severity aspect. Most flight accidents result in a high proportion of deaths compared to traffic accidents.
But it is better than working without data.
Likewise - I look at time and cost to make the fly/drive decision for regional travel. Any longer distance and I fly.
you are right...remember the DFW hub and got confused..
What @PillO said. It's all idle whatiffery on my part. If and when it comes to it, vinyl covering or black electrical tape would do the trick.
